Getting Old Sucks

8 months until I turn 80. Feel blessed to be in as good of health as I am in spite of T-Cell Lymphoma, Afib, Type 2 Diabetes, high bood pressure and colesterol. Other than that I'm great! :)

George: wonder if it's time to start planning the "geezer open hunt?"

I thought about that. Need to get in touch with Dennis.

Getting Old Sucks

The last three hunting seasons have sucked for me!
Uncontrolled A-Fib the first year, but the third ablation has that controlled.
A chest full of pulmonary emboli with large bilateral DVT’s in both upper and lower legs the second year. A great cardiothoracic surgeon did a pulmonary thrombectomy that removed the clots and gave me another chance, something that wouldn’t have happened without that fine medical care.
My right knee is bone on bone and needs to be replaced. Thought I could make it for the 25-26 season but I was mistaken. Three miles is like a marathon for me this year and about as far as I can go, which is funny since I used to run real marathons and could run three miles under 20 minutes not many years ago. Surgery is supposed to be in February 26 if all goes as planned.
Hopefully recuperation will go as planned and I will be back to somewhat normal for next year!

Dang air medic, your a mess! They can do amazing things these days for sure. IHope the recovery goes as planned. I am just breaking into the 60s and have had several back issues, heart issues and now the normal joint pains coming on. I am thankful to have the habitat to be able to hunt for a couple of hours and not have to walk across the county to shoot a limit. I am thinking I want to keep at this as long as my dog can, he is 4....if this body can make that. I know a lot of folks think that they will exercise their way into a long health life, my thoughts are that you have just so many flexes in each joint before they are worn-out. I am not burning those up on running/walking unnecessary miles. Who has time for that, get some hobbies. But today you can get those joints all replaced....pick your poison I guess.
You guys in you 80s are absolutely amazing. I am thinking you might share my thoughts that a life ending heart-attack in the field would be the perfect way to punch-out of this life.

I'm 60 and never have had knee trouble. But most everyone that I know who has knee trouble neglected their feet most of the life. About 20 years ago I started focusing on quality foot wear after suffering having aching feet at the end of each day teaching PE. I had always bought what I thought were quality athletic shoes. I now where the Brooks Glycerin Max but have also wore Hokas in the past. You can't buy $100 shoes and expect good foot results. The Max shoes run $200 and I buy 2 at a time and rotate. I replace both pairs every 6 months. I truly believe quality footwear make a difference. And a good diet and exercise. I lift weights twice a week and get in 10,000-15,000 steps daily. I retired in May but kept on teaching at a private school 4 days a week. I think staying active makes a big difference. My family tends to live to about 100. I plan on beating that. My blood pressure is good and my lab work is good every year. My advice is to eat a good diet and exercise several days a week . Maintain a healthy weight and get adequate sleep.
