Garmin Alpha 100 - Dog On Point Question

Hi all, I understand that this unit will notify you when you dog is on point. Is the notification thru vibrate or is there also a tone? How long will the unit vibrate/beep (for lack of a better term) while you dog is on point?

I'd be running 1 dog only.

Thanks so much!

Greg

You can set to tone, vibrate or both. Only happens once. Unless he moves and goes on point again. Usually 2.5 seconds to signal when he is on point.

Even after the vibration/tone goes off it will still show a picture of your dog on point. If they are moving it will show them in the "run" position.

How loud is the tone when the dog goes on point? I just got the Alpha and cannot hear the tone when my dog goes on point. Yes, the tone is on. If I go into select the different tones I can barely hear some and can't hear others. Wondering if I have a defective unit.

Do you have Tinnitis also?

Sometimes I hear the tone, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I feel it vibrate, sometimes I don't. Between the unit and me is a layer of full grain leather, my coat (multiple individual layers of fabric), whatever shirt I'm wearing, a t-shirt, and a sweater if its cold. And I have tinnitus too. The tone needs to be lower pitched.

Oh well, I'm not going to complain too loudly because it's sooo much better than not having one.

I agree, but it sure would be nice if they would develop a louder tone and one that was adjustable. With all the technology that the Alpha has it shouldn't be a big deal. We just need more people to make that request to Garmin.

And how about a dog figure on point that is dramatically different than the on the run. When my the Garmin says my dogs on point. I start heading that direction. I am watching to see if he has started moving again or is this a legitimate point. The dog figure is small and not much different than the running dog. How about a different color, or blinking... something.

DakotaZeb,
I have the same problem. When your hearing goes kaput the high freqs are the first to go. The damned little tiny "squeaky" tones are useless. Set it to vibrate.
Yes, Garmin could do better for us old pharts with hearing impairment. A tone frequency around 500 - 800 hz is lots easier to hear.

Look at the post above yours. Go to that link and submit that idea to Garmin. Maybe if they hear from enough of us they can improve those tones through an update.

If I have the handheld on a lanyard around my neck I can't feel the vibrate either. I'm sure with heavy clothes on it would be even worse. A loud tone sure would be nice!!

Sent note to GArmin per the link.
Hearing impairment among older folks is more common than younger folks are aware of.

I use a bird n lite vest and clip the garmin to a strap on my chest. Vibrate works good for me. I also download the SD atlas to a micro sd card. I've had a bad screen on my first one and a few issues pairing on my second one. Overall it's pretty sweet to know your dogs on point without beeps and noise.
