Well I took off for S.D. for the opener for those ole ditch chikens, well I had the ole station wagon heading toward I 70 when I remembered the ole grove county britt guy told me to stop by on my way ifin i wanted to, so I figered I wanted to so I pointed the ole station wagon east bound on I 70 toward Kansas. Well things were going well til the engine compartment had some smoke coming out of it like you would not believe. Well I pull over on to the side of the road and as soon as I do the engine makes a funny like sound like I have never heard before, kind of resembled an old uncle of mine when he went to the outhouse after eating turnips and cabbage all week end, really a sick kinda sound, anyways, after it quits smoking I see nothing wrong, now first of I aint no mechanic, so I was surprised when I tried to start it and it would do nothing. Well my little lady do did two things for me that I appreciate, first she lent me her cell phone, you know they are pretty imazing, second she paid for me a AAA policy. Well I call AAA, they comes out, a guy in bib overall s with an old tow truck, yeh I am in Kansas, he look under the hood and says sonny try her once, so I do,nothen, I mean to tell you not even a noise, he tells me it is freezed up, the engine. He tells me he has an engine that will fit it and he can have me back on the road in a day or two, so I say okay, tow her and do it to her. He says don't you want to know how much it will cost. Well an old 69 ford country squire station wagon engine couldn't cost to much I though, well I was wrong, I almost freezed up when he told me the cost. Well he tows it to his shop and I call my wife and tell her I need to use her credit card for a repair for the wagon, all I need is the number, well she ask what it will cost and I tells her and I think she freezes up. Well she finally gives me the number and I tell him to start on it while I figure what I am gonna do for a couple of days. Well he know more than starts on the vehicle when he hollers for me to comeover there and he wants to know why it has two shift levers one on the colom and one in the floor, well I explained it to him how it was a four wheel drive wagon,as I explained in an earlier thread, well I thought he was gonna die from laughing at me. Kansan guys , well the price now goes up as he know has to remove to transmission connections that I rigged up. To make a long story short, it is now in his grave yard and I have $3.25 the going price for an 69 ford broke down station wagon. Well I am about 44.3 miles from grainfield Kansas, so I use the wifes cell phone to call for info for grainfield, Kansas, for Mr. Gove county britts, she aint got no one by that name, no where, so I think to myself, well Jim whats you gonna do now.Well I am a long way from home, my buddies aint got no cell phones so I call the greyhound station to see about a ticket for me, 1 duffel bag, 1 shotgun and 2 ole black and tan dogs, well I can't repeat what the lady told me but it were not nice.
So the only thing I can do is start hitchin it back to Colorado. I then learned people from Kansas aint friendly, no one would give me a ride. I don't know if were the gun over my shoulder or if it were ole zeks doing his business there on the side of the road or what but no one gave me a ride until this guy from Missouri stopped and asked me what was the problem well I tell him. He is on his way to Colorado to hunt elk and tells me I can catch a ride if I dont mind me and the dogs riding in his trailer, well to make the story short as I probably got you guys bored to tears, I take him up on the ride and I am now home. I hope everyones hunt was better than mine.
Well until next time. Have a good one
