Fall trip

I have been trying to arrange my schedule so that I can have a month off in the fall. I would like to drive to Montanna, hunt for Huns, sharptails and what ever else presents itself, move to North Dakota for their opening pheasant season, work my way down to South Dakota for opening day, western Nebraska for grouse and chickens and then over to Iowa.
The logisitics of this trip just seem to get bigger the more I think about it. My wife doesn't have the same amount of time off that I do so my original thought was to rent a car and send her home when her days off were finished and I would just keep the dogs and stay in the camper.
Has anyone else done this? I've read a few books about it but the author's aren't very specific. They just state this is what they've done.
Any information would be appreciated!

Thanks

Haven't done it myself, but it sure does sound like fun. I was visiting another hunting forum a while back and there was a gentlemen that did something similar and he has a website about his trip.

There is a book out called hunters road, a guy travels through several states doing nothing but upland hunting. I think I still have the book, will have to look only thing is if I remember right his wife was not with him.

Do you remember which other site?
I have read The Sporting Road by Jim Fergus, it's a good book and is one of the ones that got me started thinking about doing this. My wife is an avid upland hunter and likes to go and I like having her along so she can go for part of it. I can do the two week thing now and I go to Iowa and to Kansas now but would like to try this. If it works I might be able to make it an annual thing. I know my dogs would love it!

My two cents would be to delay it a week or two after the openers at least. If I were to do it I would go after Thanksgiving. Almost all the crops would be out and less pressure. Just my two cents.

I've been doing almost the same thing except gone 5-7 days then home to rest, catch up on stuff then off again, always remote camping me and the pups.
Start mid Sept Grouse and Huns in MT.
Early Oct MT for waterfowl and pheasants and Antelope.
Couple days at home then off to WY Mule Deer.
Last week in Oct Elk and Deer in MT more upland.
Mid Nov is home and MN deer.
Week before Thanksgiving more MT upland and Deer and Elk.
Good week weather wise in Dec I'm MT bound for upland.

This makes for lots of driving. I've also stopped off in ND and SD to hunt pheasants, just not enough time.

I'm self employed but still need to make a living.

I know the pheasant hunting is less congested after the opening weeks but I want to get to Montana in mid to the last week in September for grouse and huns and then work my way down from there. If I wait for the second week in SD then it's late in Montana and getting close to opening weekends in Nebraska and Iowa.

Right now I'm planning on pulling my travel trailer and camping with an occasional overnight stay in a motel. The trouble I have with the 5-7 day trips is it always seems like Iâ??m in a hurry to get somewhere or get home. Donâ??t get me wrong, I like and take several short trips each year but I want this to be relaxing and unhurried. If I wake up and the wind is blowing 50 MPH I can take the fishing rod and try my luck or if itâ??s pouring rain I can roll over and sleep in without being worried that I have to go home the next day.

Airmed, good plan. The long drives get to be a pain especially latter, seems you always hit ice one place or another.
If you decide to upland hunt MT let me know.
