These products are made in a single, specialized facility. In cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration, P&G determined that some products made at this facility have the potential for Salmonella contamination. No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported, but as a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling all products made at this facility.
Anyone who has purchased this food should stop feeding it to their pet immediately. Although pets are fairly resistant to Salmonella-related disease, affected pets may show decreased appetite, fever, lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. Humans should avoid contact with suspect food and follow strict hand washing procedures. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Many many many brands have had and will have again recalls. None of them are perfect. Iams, Euk along with the rest. You hope they just do the right thing, get it back in a timely manner and clean the system. Think your food is totaly safe, think again. Below is a link with loads of recalls.

RECALLING FIRM/MANUFACTURER
Procter & Gamble The Iams Co. Henderson , via verbal and email on November 22, 2012. North Carolina Initiated recall is ongoing,
REASON
Product contains high levels of Aflatoxin.

VOLUME OF PRODUCT IN COMMERCE
49863 bags (various sizes)
DISTRIBUTION
Nationwide
END OF ENFORCEMENT REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 22, 2012.

There are more brands of foods involved than the one originally stated and it is not confined to dry dog food, but affects a brand of Iams dry cat food also. Further, Eukanuba brand also is affected by the aflatoxin. Procter and Gamble chose not to share this information with the public but to spread the word via phone and e-mail, apparently to retailers.

This involves or involved their Hendrson, North Carolina plant, which appears to produce pet foods for other companies in addition to P & G:

Iams Food Company

Henderson, NC 27537-7450

"Products or Services: Chiwawa Food, Ol Roy Dog Food, Homemade Dog Food Recipes, Purina Dog Food and Pinnacle Dog Food."

The unlikely name in this list is Purina, as I doubt Nestle Purina is contracting Procter and Gamble as a co-packer for their pet foods.

Ken, have you ever tried Nutrisouce Performance or Super Performance? Anybody had any luck with it? It is made in Perham. I just switched to it a few days ago from Eukanuba after Euk switched their bag from 40 to 33 lbs and kept the price the same. We'll see how they do.

I hope this doesn't start another angry dog food debate....

That was sort of started when an un named individual claimed we did not deserve our dogs if we feed a certain food. This is why I wish to convey that any of the food brands have trouble. Weather it gets reported or not. I tried NS, it's OK It did not agree with me is all. Plus the price point was to much. I may have hit it at a bad time. Going over pet food problems should not lead to people bashing one another over the choice of food they feed..

Good thing I throw my Iams bags away as soon as Im done dumping their food into the storage containers, I have no idea what upc numbers they were.
Oh well, the dogs look great. I guess no sense worrying about it.

It still is probably better for them than a dead fish on the riverside they eat, or a big ole pile of horseshit!:D

or the coyote shit, or raccoon shit or goose shit my dogs seem to just love. Whenever they get into some I tell them to go kiss momma when we get home. ;)

I've been feeding Nutrisource for 3 years and have been very satisfied with the results. I feed the Adult formula year round. I just adjust the portions depending on the level and amount of exercise the dogs get. I tried both the Performance and the Super Performance but decided my dogs really didn't need the extra protein, fat and calories. Both my females are spayed and keeping weight off can be an issue for me. I think it's a very good dog food and I like the fact it's made locally in Perham, MN.

I was with them for about a year. I got 15 bags at a time and they gave you two free, for 38 bucks a bag if I remember right. Much cheaper then a store. I could not keep Odie in shape on it. He would not hold weight. Same as PPlan about for me. The pups did not do that good either off and on. I did find out at the time there was some issues so that could have been it. I keep looking for a food that all of them do OK on so I don't have to screw around with several brands. One dog I have is a garbage can. She can eat any thing and it don't bother her one bit. Each animal can have different effects from different food. I had some real bad trouble, serious on Native. Thats the only one that truly scared me. Off and on the dogs will eat crap like dandy lions, corn by the bird pen etc as said above with scat etc. And I will have some sick stomach for a day or two. Thats where the Dogzymes comes in. Sprinkle that on a couple times a day and it clears right up. Over all I am very happy with Diamond Naturals. The grain free stuff. I do have my eye on that recall trust me. But the bag I have seems fine, and I have 2 more from the same lot. By the end of this week or already, that equipment has been throughly cleaned, and ingredient inspection has been stepped up. Most likely they will even go to a new source. The crap that goes in all these foods would make you hurl. I have been to some and also some rendering plants that supply the dead cows, chickens, it's gross. No way in hell are they killing every bacteria. They just cook the hell out of the crap and hope for the best. Now if you want a sure thing, go to the meat locker and buy prime rib and feed them better then your self. That will be your only sure way.

Wouldn't worry, it was earlier this year and late 2011.

By the time they call a recall, the dogs are allready eating it and getting sick where is was distributed from.

great link......noticed the excell spread sheet link at the bottom of the page shows all recalls reported since 2007. All of us owners should be considered lucky as I saw over 1100 recalls on Dog & Cat foods.:mad::mad:

I have the same issues. It seems like every type of food I buy one of my dogs doesn't agree with. I don't want to have to buy different foods. My setter did not do well on Eukanuba. My male springer did not do well on Taste of the Wild or the grain free brand at Costco (forgot the name). My female springer is one of those "garbage cans" that you talked about.

I will try this Nutrisource for awhile and see how it goes. What was the scare with Native?

Let me know what you think of the NutriSource after you've fed it for awhile. I sure have no complaints about it for my dogs. But then I don't think I've ever had a dog that had an issue with any food. Lucky I guess. I have a friend in NSTRA that has several GWP's and he feeds NutriSource exclusively.

Yeah, I would give NS a go Jeff. I don't mean to say it was horrible for me by any means. Just not quite what I hoped for my mutts. The problem with Native for me was a serious bloody stool with a mucus membrane. They were blowing 10 times a day. I think that could be a great product if they got their 13it together. It took a while for my dogs to recover.

Very strange Ken. I've been feeding Native for 3 + years and the only issue I've had is the price, which is getting way too high IMO, but I only have 1 dog at the moment.

FCS,

You should like Victor. Hopefully the dogs do.As you know I have been feeding it for sometime now. Great folks at answering any questions you may have on ingredients and different blends. Keep me posted.
