Elk

I have a chance to go elk hunting on a private ranch in Western Montana for free next fall. I'm wondering whether I should do it, I've never been big game hunting, and I'm generally not thrilled about big game hunters.

Check what type of “ranch hunting” you will be doing. Some of those ranchers don’t like the elk eating their hay this time of year.

The “hunter” hides in the hay feeder and shoots them in the face when them come to eat.

Might not be that type of hunt maybe. Don’t shoot a Hereford, they don’t like that.

Might open up new horizons. An elk hunt is a dream of mine. Just started applying for points in the last couple years. Listen, pheasants are great eating and even more fun to hunt... But a freezer full of red meat you harvest yourself is top notch.

My personal opinion is a bit different. All hunters are in the same basic family. Whether you like your family or not you should at least understand them and support them. All hunting is continually being threatened by development, politic etc. I don't see the sense if fragmenting our family or not supporting them. That said Goose, it you've never done it, I would recommend going and going with someone you trust and respect.
