Nice videos, even if they are a little old the information is still sound. This is what I was saying in a thread awhile back about leaving weeds grow in wheat stubble, but they say it better. A easy way to help wildlife without cost and work! A win win in my book.:10sign:

Thanks for posting. Until farmers are dissuaded from putting herbicide on wheat stubble, pheasant numbers are unlikely to return to mid-90s levels.

This is where PF really needs to get serious. Set up an office in central Kansas and work with the farmers, legislature, and KS Wildlife dept. to change farming practices. But a goal has to be set to convert to these methods in a set time frame or we'll have to figure out how to do it without PF.

weeds

over the years I have met a number of farmers that if they thought that they had a weed on their place, couldn't sleep at night, several of these same guys also would tell you that if they shut the season down for a couple of years, the birds would come back, don't know where too though

cheers

Reality check! The political lobby spending by the various chemical companies have it now where it throws a farmer out of the federal programs if they leave weeds go post harvest in certain situations. Pheasants Forever and KDWPT don't have the financial ability to combat that. Until we get away from this type of lobby control on the farm, we're going to be stuck with what we have or worse. Many of the problems out on the farm are being caused by poorly controlled "modern advances". GMO seed is creating a situation that is incompatible with our native pollinators and leading to resistant weeds that glyphosate no longer can kill. All too soon we forget that nature thrives with diversity. Our current agriculture system is forcing monocultures. Nature is going to revolt some day and we all will pay for it. We shouldn't have wheat farmers, corn farmers, or any other specialty farmer. They all need to stay away from the all eggs in 1 basket and farm multiple crops in a rotation that naturally takes care of weed and insect problems without chemicals. Just my 2 cents.

That is well said. I would just add that the addition of livestock is another step that will help.

Here's video (from Colorado Parks and Wildlife) that talks about habitat and pheasant hunting basics. This is a good one for any new-comers to the sport.:)
