I like them for my GSP's. Helps prevent head shake and hard mouth. The head and tail will hit them in the face if shaken. The weight and firm body helps represent a bird.
they are also very good for injecting with scent and using for drags I also like to use them for duck searches when I can't get live ducks. I have about 15 of them different species..upland and waterfowl.
You understand that an awful lot of us cant use live birds in a residential area on a Tuesday at 6:45 pm for just a dozen quick throws before dark? Pretty sure everyone would agree that live birds are best but these arent a bad substitute.
Rub on scents and such only blend in with the smell of the "rubber duck". Don't fool yourself, they smell the bumper. They say dogs can recognize over 1 million different smells (how they know this is beyond me). Put a hunting dog down wind of a pile of bumpers and a pile of ducks....... He will hand you a duck every time! Now scent the bumpers...... The dog will still hand you a duck!
The only draw backs to dokkens is the cost and how much space they take up. I think the size and weight of the Canada goose and mallard are benifical for young dogs. Be careful using the Avery rubber ducks in the winter as they crack, soak up water and get real skanky. I can even smell them at 10 yards
I like to use "flag man" streamers on my bumpers there black a white make it easy to toss bumper and dog's can see marks better also if dog shakes its head they slap them selfs.

Ok, Dokkens are second only to live birds. I have used them for years when I had my Labrador Retriever kennel, and trained every pup with them. They are much more effective than canvas bumpers. The biggest benefit was stopping hardmouth issues. None of the pups I trained had hard mouth. I think its the firmness of the dummy. People would ask me about hard mouth and I wouldn't have much to say until my uncle who also had a Labrador kennel, told me "keep using those Dokkens, they train a dog right". He was right and so that's what I say as well.
So, are they worth the money? I say yes, every red cent.
