Dogs unleashed in the back of a truck

hmmmm... I only see ppl that are 'partially' orange ;).. do you also hear 'those voices'? :p
I hear 'em a lot!.. but mostly in Walmart... "Cleanup on isle five"... "Security to sporting goods please"...
I've pretty much learned to ignore them, though they do FREEEEAK me out sometimes...:rolleyes:

Late to the party on this one, but have a story-

I grew up on a dairy. All of our hunting dogs were also farm dogs, they had the run of the farm, which included the rides in the back of the truck around the farm. Never any issues.

When I was 15 my best buddy was 14, I had a shorthair, he had a young pointer. We were driving down the gravel road to the house, both dogs in the back. Was going about 30 mph, heard a shreak, checked the rearview and see his pointer tearing him self inside out in the ditch. Lock up the tires, reverse back to him, he is very much alive, but both eyeballs popped out of socket. Got him calmed down, he was in shock, panting with tongue hanging out just like he was warm from a run. Loaded him up, found the closest vet 20 miles away that we could get a hold of. Drove the 20 miles with him in the front seat, eyeballs hanging out of his head. Vet checked him over and said he could force the eyeballs back in socket, but he was blind for sure. My buddy had him put down.
 
Mine rides in his crate 99% of the time. He gets to ride in the back seat for ice cream runs in the summer. I look at it this way. When someone runs a stop sign and hit me I know my dog has a much better chance tumbling in his kennel then around the inside of my Tahoe.
 
i have a yellow lab that is now 7 years old, but when she was about 2 years old i had her the back of my pickup, headin up to the lake. well long story short she jumped out. messed up her hip real bad. she walks with a really bad limp and runs a little funny. since then i always put my dogs in a crate no matter how far or not far at all i am going. she cant hunt to hard anymore with the hip, but boy does she still love it when she gets to!
