Have you guys ever had glucosamine cause upset stomach/diarrhea in dogs?
Do you have an opinion on librela? I use it with daily glucosamine powder.. I can see his rear hips breaking down, just trying to slow down father timeGlucosamine is an OTC drug and very well tolerated by dogs, results vary. Quite a few meds can help MILD cases of OA.
It is hard to overcome poor conditioning, aging and genetics. I want to die chasing chukars at 90 years of age.
My 11 year old usually follows behind me, but Jones gets all retrieves.I don’t know that I have any suggestions per se. So much depends on the individual dog and the shape they are in. You know your dog better than anyone so the best advice I have got is let them tell you how much they can handle comfortably. Both of mine are over 10 and one is coming back from his 2nd tplo surgery in as many yrs. Luckily they both still have good health and stamina and have enjoyed another season doing what they love.
9yo GSP on one TPLO surgery will hunt all day with no sign of pain, next morning was a different story…Started her on Adequan injectable intramuscular post hunt and her recovery times improved a lot. Started giving it in low dose pre hunt and cut her back to 1/2 day hunts and she barely stiffens up at all.It has helped her quite a bit. If I understand correctly, glucosamine is its primary ingredient and it was recommended by our vet.
Adequan Canine is the only FDA-approved disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) for dogs. It proactively treats the disease and not just the symptoms. Adequan Canine helps to restore joint lubrication, relieve inflammation, and renew the building blocks of healthy joint cartilage—to help keep dogs moving.
