Dog relief

I have a hard charging BLF who gets pretty stiff & sore after hunting all day. Anything I can give her to give her some relief. She is in pretty good shape. Hard to train for hunting conditions.

I use Carprofen and Rimadyl. They are about the same thing. Let the dog eat first. Give it to em at night and make sure they can spread out. If they are cooped up in a dog box over night they will be just as stiff in the morning. Blood flow and stretching out is key when they are sore.

+1 for Rimadyl. I've used for years for sore and/or arthritic dogs. It's always worked great. I just use as needed. 1 mg per lb. of dog weight given once a day, or twice a day if needed. I get it in the 100 mg. chewable tablets. They are easy to break in half so my 40 lb. Brittany gets a half at a time.

Less side effects with Rimadyl. Aspirin can cause ulcers in dogs. Can dry them up as well. They will drink alot more water on aspirin. I think as far as pain relief goes they are about the same.

Rimidayl is great. Just don't over use it

Good advice about letting a dog sprawl out. Hunting a 14 yo this year.

If you have a 14 year old, I would give him/her one before hand and one after. But like stated above, dont over use it. If they dont seem stiff and sore, they dont need it. My older dog is 9, when she looks like shes "tiptoeing" a little bit from being sore after the hunt, I feed her first then give her a pill. Then ill give her one, or half of one, before we hunt the next morning.
