Dog handler license in KS

I'm wanting to train on quail prior to the season. I have plenty of family ground to run dogs on...not wanting to do a preserve license but heard that there is a dog trainer/handler license available?

Any one have info? I sent email to kdwp as their site has very little info.

I have not heard of this. I guess I hail from a less regulated past, but I don't think you need a permit to run your dogs on private ground. Your just pointing, flushing, and maybe blanking upon flush. If it wises them up, so much the more sporting later! I used to do it all the time.

I'm not only running - but hunting (shooting) over for the sake of training. Including retrieving.

I talked to Pratt this AM and there is such a lic called Dog-Commercial lic. It's $22.50 per yr and allows me as landowner to train my dogs (i have to specify the breed) on my own land with bobwhite quail (liberated/pen raised).

Southern send me a pm with your email address and I will send you the info from KDWP. I looked into this a couple weeks ago. You have to band all quail and pheasants if they are out of season before you release them. If using Chukar you are golden to shoot and train year round on the ground you specify. If you do a preserve license its around 200 dollars and you have to release a bird for everyone you shoot whether in season or not and you have to report how many were taken and released. Also to transport birds from a preserve you have to have a receipt type paper filled out for anyone that takes game. I am leaning towards the dog training license, cheaper and less paperwork. Any other questions just ask I've looked into both pretty extensively over the past month.
