Do this now or loose more rights!

The well-known Old Drum story was a bit of a reach and I don't begin to see the deep, dark ulterior motives implied in this matter re birddogs.
Some dog purchasers would not travel, many would & most, should.
But, definition of breeding females is very grey and more regulation anywhere is seldom any best answer.
Quest for money and worry about some bad dog sites is likely the driver...but, I do think it a poor route to solve a considered problem and so I signed.
But, there is a lot of frustration simmering out there and any offering such as this is often quickly made a wider rallying point....a point constructed of whatever the frustrated can encircle their arms.
That is a shame as it can dilute or divert the main focus.

I saw this listed on the petition page:
Under the proposed regulations, breeders or others who sell a puppy sight unseen, by any means including online, by mail or by telephone, would now be regulated in accordance with USDA standards, if you own more than four "breeding females" of any of the listed species, including dogs and cats. The effect of these proposed regulations would be to take away the public’s opportunity to obtain puppies from those breeders, who in many cases have dedicated their lives to breeding for health, breed type and temperament.
It sounds to me like it cuts down on puppy mills. I don't think anyone should buy a puppy sight unseen and it appears to me that is the main stipulation resulting in USDA standards being applied. Did I read it wrong?

And what is the definition of "breeding females" in the context used here? As in "bred" or simply unspayed dogs with a possibility to breed? If it's simply unspayed dogs on the premise I have a problem, but otherwise I don't.

Are you flipping kidding me??? This will do absolutely "Nothing" to stop puppy mills. It will effect every single good breeder of fine gun dogs on the face of the earth though. Me for example as stated above, I have 1 older dog retired, in tact. I have River( who I would not under this regulation!) I have a 1 year old , she still has a long way to go before I would even consider it. And I will have 2- 10 week old pups that will be in tact I may never keep. Why in Gods green earth would I be considered a puppy mill. Never even had one dang pup this year. It will effect people like Sunrise, Fast Track, Pine Shadows,Sand Creek, Dansmirth, Ivanhoes, Wiskey River, RQuest, Black River, and on and on. All serious hobby/ field trial/ hunting breeders whom do the best for the breed. We have websites, Big flipping deal. "Not" 1 single puppy from these type breeders end up in a news paper paper, or a pet slop, I mean shop. It is a very very very "Bad" idea...

I thought the USDA had their hand full with the DREADED Russian Olives.

Agree. They should stick to worrying about eradicating the junk they planted that is killing our fine gun dogs, and stop using it. Not creating issues detrimental to all breeds of dogs. There is more realistic ways to deal with a puppy miller. And it also falls on the consumer for supporting such stupidity/(puppy mills.) Think about it hard before you support such rubish. What if you wanted to bring a dog from the UK, Canada, or else where? What if you wanted fresh or frozen seamen flown in from a world renound stud? How will it affect all that. Who knows? I don't have a problem with figuring out a solution for puppy mill trash, but this is far from a realistic plan of attack.

off topic, I know, but I had a DNR worker turn pale as a ghost when I told her I wanted to plant RO. Give me a brake man. This stuff is going way to far. Almost cult like if you ask me.

"Flock shooting!" Over stepping their bounds. I signed it a week ago from another forum. Bet you this can be traced to HSUS! Everyone needs to sign it!

I have purchased a dog sight unseen and I am purchasing another in 3 weeks. The first one worked out great and I have no doubt the next will as well.

It should be up to the American consumer to put puppy mills out of business by sending their dollars to reputable breeders instead.

Ohh PS, I bought a pup in Ohio 2 weeks ago. I saw a pic. I know the breeding. The sire is an AFC FC. The Dam has every agility title known to man. Smart trainable dogs. Never met the gal. I will meet her in WI in 4 weeks. "MY" choice. Can't wait to run my new FC. Same breeding as Odie. And am happy I don't have to go to Ohio. "Freedom" I know a good dog named that as well. A frozen unseen breeding. Good thing they did that...:D
 Be careful what you wish for. Just sayin
