Diamond Naturals Chicken

Guys,
I'm not posting to hear what you feed or what's wrong with what I feed but did want to share some things with you. I'm aware of recalls and such; however, I switched over to Diamond Naturals Chicken around June 1. My boy Taz begin to look weird...his liver patches and saddle were getting what looked like black spots in them. I took him to the vet and she (I know, but best vet I've ever had) said he's great just keep an eye on him.
Now he looks, acts and performs like a million bucks. All of his liver patches and ticks have turned a very dark liver. Shedding less and less stool. Just an FYI if you're thinking of changing or trying something new.

good for you, what was going on, any idea?

cheers

Really not sure...I was feeding the dogs a different brand and his fur and skin were dry with lot's of shedding, and just not healthy looking. Had a friend hook me up with a couple of bags of the Diamond Naturals and after a couple of weeks, his coat began to feel and look better. My wife called me out and asked me what he had gotten into due to the black spots. Now, all of his liver coloring is dark and beautiful. As I said before his whole demeanor and coat has improved. ???

Any thoughts from the experts...(again, let's not make this a dog food comparison).

Good to hear Jim. We fed a bag or two to a litter once and got along well. I have had plenty of trouble with brands changing formulas on me and I've never had it turn for the better. The puppy food we were using last fall changed so I switched puppy food. I'm using Victor on the puppies now and they are doing well. The good thing about Diamond is that it is in the farm stores close by. If a guy worked out a bulk price with them it might be the ticket.

I used Diamond alot. They use a lot of chelated minerals, and vitamins. Make it easy for dogs to use. Their factory produces Wellness brands by contract. Every body has production issues....look at human consumption ground beef! I used 30-20 premium in the old days, greasy, dark brown, looked like a rat turd! Boy the dogs liked it and did fine. Horses for courses, as they say. If it works, I wouldn't change!

I have been feeding my dogs that same food for 3years plus now. It was great. But now they changed it which I have no clue about although I am feeding it. It worked so well why mess with it. And I used it on the pups and everyone. All the dogs did very well, coats, stool, muscle, endurance. I had a batch of 3 day old pups when I went in to get a bag. Only to see the new in and old gone. I never paid attention to the ingredients, just fed it. Well the worst happened, they all got the craps, and my puppies got the scours. I had to tube feed and sub q hydrate them for a week. It said on the new bag you should do 50-50 to switch. DA!!!!! I think we all know that. Problem is, they never made both available. I called all over and found 4 bags of the original and drove 2 hrs to snag it. I got them back on that and things settled down. I just this last week finished my last bag doing 50- 50 I see it went down from 30-20 protein fat now too, to 26 16 or something. So not sure how it will hold up compared to the old. I may go to the extreme athlete for trials and hunting. I hope they do as good on it. Either way I was furious they never made both available to switch and for what I had to go through. I am still trying it for now, and just hope it works good.

I guess. over the years I have tried lot's of dog food from whatever was the cheapest to some high grade stuff and I have never seen any side effects from any of the foods. have had a number of litters over the years, they all ate anything. well before serious hunting season I switch to a high fat content likely from diamond, never seen stool problems but without the extra fat I have for sure seen dogs run out of gas on a several days hunt. as far as switching brands or at least foods, my dogs have always gotten to lick the plate, besides being maybe a useless treat for the dog, I have felt that it exposes them to other foods so that when I make the switch which for me is cold turkey, it doesn't seem to bother them. have never had to so called wean my dogs from one food to another so maybe the crap off the table makes a difference, dunno

cheers

So far so good on the switch. Several of us are using it and none of the dogs that did 50-50 are having any issues:thumbsup: Stools good as a stool looks I guess LOL. Coats seem to be fine. Still waiting to see how high the octane in the gas tank compares. But so far so good.

Loved it till I got a bad bag and my dog was tore up for a week. Quality control I guess. My dog does better on pro plan, but every dog is different.

My folks raised dogs when I was a kid, mom made her own dog food in the basement. That was some sweet smelling stuff.

the question I would have is how do you know it was the dog food: ie: bad bag or your wife's cooking. not picking on you but also not sure how one could tell. interested

cheers

Diamond brand has a loyal following among some bird dog owners and bird dog breeders/kennels. They have a track record on quality that is no better than any other producer.

The seem to be going grain free to attract that crowd.

If it works, use it I guess.
