Some of us are only getting locally, which here in sek is mostly deer.
Just looking for stories, how to ect.
So far 3 of us have 2 doe in the freezer, have seen a couple of nice bucks, but not in range. With the rutt in full swing, lets here them.

Went bowhunting for the first time this year in my life. Bow I bought 20 years ago. An hour into the hunt I had a doe on the ground. Of course, I climb out of the stand, go over and check her out, look up and two wall hanger bucks are staring at me from 100 yards away.....

Hunted probably another 10 times since then over the last few weeks. Rattled a couple in, first one was a spike that came in on a string looking for a fight. Got right under my stand to where I could have spit on him. The other was a good sized buck, but he hung up about 80 yards out. I'm only guessing the wind was kind of blowing in his direction and he picked up some scent.

Not sure when I'll get out next. Been seeing a ton of bucks out in the morning on the way to work, a few weeks ago was only seeing does.

You have got to learn how to post picture. its you civic duty. Let get with the program,

I use photobucket, it simple and free.

deer have gone nocturnal, where we have been sitting, going to try a drilled wheat field in the am.sets up against a half mile section of timber, which I can;t hunt, but has a nice draw coming out of it.
lets see what happens.

I got one doe in the freezer so far this year, well I should say it was in the freezer. Shot her in October and the boy (5) has eaten all the jerky, in fact he was eating it for breakfast! Still have a couple roast left. Last year was the first year I saved roast instead of slicing them up for jerky and I must say a venison roast in the crock pot is some fine eating. Makes me think twice about slicing them into jerky. Have some buddies in SC Kansas that have shot deer in the past week. Going to try and sit tomorrow if the wind isn't too strong. Was bird hunting today and seen a some deer moving in the middle of the day.

I saw a pretty nice Buck in town today. He tried to run across Seth Childs rd, down by the Honda dealership. Glad he stopped and turned around, as he would have never made it.

During the rut the sure do some stupid stuff.

Got off work early 2 days ago and borrowed a friends gun. He tells me it shoots a fuz high. OK, 30 yards nice 8 point wall mount stands for 5 shots, loaps off untouched. Comes back 20 min later to make his scrape, I don't shoot this time. I was bummed. Next day he sights the gun in and at 30 yards it was 2 feet high and 1 foot right LOL. I never had a chance. Next night same stand. Climb up, sit down and about 5 min later the same buck was laying 10 feet from my tree in cattails, jumps up and runs off. Not ready. Watched me the whole time climb the tree, and sit down. Tonight went to new spot. 90 yards 160lb doe in bag. 1 shot heart gone. Back to big buck spot tomorrow night.:D

A buddy of mine brought me a nice fork a month or so ago to butcher for him. I kept a front and back leg and a back strap for my service and boy is it good. Damn deer was eating nothing but figs and pistachios as far as we can tell. I don't care for deer hunting but I do love deer eating, a few loin steaks pan seared nice and rare with just salt and pepper... mmm mmm good!

Turtle Jr killed a nice button buck this evening. He field dressed skinned and quartered it by himself.

Nice Job!! We didn't go yesterday pm,to windy, but wouldn't you know it,drove by one of our places, and doe and buck, not 30 yds from a stand.

Nice work,

I check my game cameras after last week, and some new bucks showed up, in the spot all the does have been.

No Monsters, but some nice bucks,

We got this MONSTER  on the 10th with my bow. My daughter is still bragging about how awesome it was.:D I should pick it up tomorrow, and can't wait for some delicious bacon-wrapped backstrap steaks!:10sign:

It was a great hunt, with a lot of action in the last hour of legal light. It was only a question of whether or not a deer would give us a good shot. With about 10 minutes left, this guy finally made a loop right down our trail, giving me a nice broadside shot. He didn't go 20 yards after the shot and then piled up just off the side of the trail.

I had been reading up on all kinds of reviews of new bows, thinking maybe I would upgrade my entry-level bow for a bit fancier one... But then I slapped myself and said, "look stupid, this bow kills the chit out of deer and I only ever get one or two tags a year anyway!" I think I'll save the $$ and get my daughter a youth bow for her birthday next year. :D

Awesome story Toad! I'm glad she's patient enough to sit with you on a deer hunt and that you're patient enough to take her;)

If you're in the market for a youth bow, I have 2 and my boys don't use 'em. Let me know if you're interested and I can get the info on 'em and let you know. I believe they are both 25lb. pull, which probably isn't something you want to shoot a deer with, but.......

Oh yea, I ain't the kind of guy that tries to make $ on anything used. If I got one you want, I'll give it to you.

BTW, That is one good looking Truck ;)

At least one more year with this badboy, probably two unless it starts giving me trouble. I'm getting cheap in my old age...

Wow, KB, that is a really nice offer about the bow. I saw that they now have some really adjustable ones now that would be great for a growing female. I was thinking maybe one of those, but it would be great if she could try one of your boys' bows first. If she doesn't like it, then I'm not out the cost of a new bow... Thanks man.

And she does pretty well in the stand. I got a buddy stand for us, and hung camo netting around the shooting rail. She feels safer in the tree that way (with more of a "wall" around her), and doesn't think about the height like she did last season. Of course we both wear harnesses and tie off to the tree for safety... But she can sit pretty still for a kid her age, and does pretty well entertaining herself watching birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc., and listening to the sounds in the woods. She also brings books to read when that fails.

Mine has 213000 miles, need to get a couple more years out of her.
But coming home from work tonight, the Check Engine Soon light came on :(

Uh Oh! Well, if you end up getting a new truck, make sure you post lots of pictures of it! I'm tired of people flagging me down, asking to see my gorgeous setters. Then I hafta say, "no, I'm not Setternut, I just have these two crazy meat dogs..."
