I try to introduce some of the lesser known country artists I listen too. There some solid country artists these days that are wearing the trucker hat/frayed bill Eric Church like look. The country just isn't country, it's good, but it's not what you probably remember. Chris LeDoux is in my top 5 of all time for country music. I'm a big fan of Singer/Songwriters. I think these singers that are belting music are just not believable anymore. Eric Church writes his own stuff, Jake Owen and a few others listed below.

Here are a few Webguy selected picks:

If you are going to watch one in full, watch Lightning by Eric Church. Powerful and he wrote it. Performed it at the Opry.

Dustin Evans & The Good Times Band - Good Ol' Days To Come (These guys are from Wessington Springs, SD and are now Western Underground (http://www.westernunderground.com/) and Chris LeDoux's kid Ned LeDoux is in the band. Dustin Evans is the lead singer and kid of famous old school country Kyle Evans. I used to watch Dustin Evans in Sioux Falls years ago. They rock.

Eric Church - Lightning

Chris LeDoux - Western Skies

Chris Young - Voices

Rodney Atkins - Take a Back Road

JT Hodges - Goodbyes Made You Mine

Kip Moore - Somethin' 'Bout A Truck

Jake Owen - The One That Got Away

Randy Houser - How Country Feels

Eric Church - Drink in My Hand

Florida Georgia Line - Cruise

Billy Dean - Once In a While
I did a pretty cool tribute for one of my oldest customers in honor of their son in law who passed away to Billy Dean since he was a bull rider. I thought it fit pretty well. It autoplays - http://www.buffalobutte.com/about/tye-easton/ Billy Dean has some solid hits.

webguy we saw chris ledoux in concert . at our wedding we played one of his songs.

I saw him play after a Rodeo in Mo when I was 4 or 5 years old. He drove an old, ugly van back then and pulled a flatbed trailer behind it, which served as his stage. He'd already made like 20 different albums. We had an entire "tape-case" full of 'em and that is all we'd listen to on the way to the next Rodeo. I know every single song of his, at least those made before he went to Nashville. IMO, his music was never the same after he went mainstream.

johnny cash

mel tillis

charlie pride

Hank

the list of other country singers or "artists" can properly start after these 4 very talented gentlemen get their mention.

:)

Fully agree about 'pop country'. Nashville got corrupted by the money in the "Urban Cowboy" days and has been mostly commercial, recipe following music ever since. I was raised on Hank, Jim Reeves, Eddie Arnold, Tex Ritter, Patsy Cline and Loretta. Willie and Waylon, Ricky Skaggs and Vince Gill I still consider 'the good new stuff' lol.

Josh Turner has some good music out now a days..

Alsion Krauss and Union Station are perhaps the best collection of pure musicians I have ever encountered. There truly hasn't been a band with that much talent all in one place, ever. If you like bluegrass check out The Greencards or Rhonda Vincent.

What the heck about Allen Jackson? I like all kinds of music. Rock, Country Rock as you call it. There are just good songs and bad. I like inspirational music, and motivational music. Both new and old.

i agree!

i have a cousin in alabama that looks like the lead singers twin. when i pointed this out he said that he had that look first:mad:. the biggest difference was my cousin has no money or tallent !
