Closing weekend brag-board

Thought I would give everyone a place to discuss/showoff the results of their final weekend of the season.

We had a great saturday. 3 trucks, 6 guys, 8 dogs, 10 hours, 23 roosters... 1 helluva good time.

That does not look like much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the Heck????

V-John I had that same thing done with a partial rotator repair back in October. It will take some time to heal and the gun won't treat it well but it will come around. I think the worst part is sleeping in the chair for the first few weeks. Hope all is well soon. You picked a good season to get it fixed though if that makes you feel any better.

I thought the pacemaker/defibulator in my shoulder looked bad till I saw you! Good luck. The desire to hunt and shoot is a powerful motivator. I shot off the opposite shoulder for one season, and used a cross-over stock for part of another, but it didn't stop me! and it won't you either.

How did Ox do?

Recovering from this.

Torn Labrum.

With that much needle work, they could have put on a whole new arm. Wish you were heading out with Brice and I.

I got out yesterday, doing a little quail hunting. Both dogs pointed some birds and my pup Indy had his first retrieve.

The last day of the season for me will be Monday. Heading out a few hours west of Manhattan to do some quail / pheasant hunting with another buddy.

Tried to get a pic yesterday of Indy holding his quail, but he wanted off the tailgate :D

I ended up going goose hunting this weekend. Shot a limit of canadas and 4 snows. I still have tomorrow but I think it's going to be spent the same way. :D

I hunted 3 days and shot 11 by myself and with one Gordon Clyde. It was a real bear in the wind Friday. I would have stayed a couple more days, but the dog and I are both getting old and had covered all the ground we wanted. I didn't take any pics because everytime I try to take a pic of dog on point when I'm hunting alone a rooster gets up and takes off and Clyde gives me a dirty look. Next year will be an adventure as I will be starting my two pups which both will be 1 year old. Clyde and I will both have to learn patience.

Everyone. Thank you for the words. I appreciate it. Means a lot, it really does.

Huntin, was your incision this large? It seems a bit large, and today is roughly ten days after the surgery, and I still can't feel my thumb. REALLY frustrating. Did you experience that? I have an appointment tomorrow but this thumb thing is annoying. But the kick of a shotgun on this shoulder does NOT sound good at all.
And, you are 100% right. The sleeping thing is a giant PIA!

We all knew there were no birds in Ness!!!! LOL~

Ness, Lane and Finney County were good to me this year. Off the top of my head, I hunted 11 days alone and shot my limit 9 days 3 birds one day and two birds one day. I hunted with a friend 2 days and we limited. I hunted with two guys 2 days and we shot 17. I hunted with 3 guys for two days and we shot 23. Most of the birds were shot in Nesss County, with a handful shot in Lane and around 15 on my farm in Finney County. I don't think I saw a dozen hunters total the whole time I hunted the area. I shot birds on two WIHA areas near Ness City this last hunt that didn't act like they had been hunted at all. There are no tracks in the gates and some dirt roads I drive down don't even have any pu tracks on them. I think the lack of pressure in the area helped make up for the poor hatch. There are definitely enough hens that a good hatch this spring and it will be really good again next year.

V-John - seriously what did you do? How do you tear your labrum?

Ox did very well for a 4 month old. He got to chase a lot of pheasants as they flew off. He really gets excited when he hears gun shots. He did not do anything that screwed up part of the hunt for anyone else. He did not point any birds. He did try to figure out how to back, which was pretty funny to watch. You could tell his instincts were telling him that he was supposed to do something, but he was not quite sure what it was he was supposed to do.

The most amusing part of the hunt occurred after a "covey" of roosters busted on us and all flew different directions giving almost everyone in the group a bird at the same time. I tried to mark 2 birds down near each other. Found the first one right away, but I could not find the other one. After a few minutes I gave up and just waited for the dogs to finish finding everyone else's birds. One of the other hunters then came over with a dog. I told him I could not find the rooster but I thought I had him marked down right around here. The other hunter started laughing and told me the bird was blinking at him. Then he pointed to my feet. The only thing separating my foot and the live rooster was one stalk of milo. :) we all had a good laugh.

The weather was so nice this afternoon, I went golfing.:D Shot a pretty good (for me) round. Saw very few other golfers out. I imagine the golfing pressure has been pretty low for the last couple months, because my ball didn't seem afraid of humans. Whenever I swung the club, it would flush, but it flew pretty straight and didn't try to hide in the trees and long grass (like they do in the summer).

All in all, it was a nice day with the wife and kids, getting some sunshine and fresh air... Boring day for the dogs... Still have two days left, I suppose.;)

V-John, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

V-John my thumb was the same way for awhile as well. It is because all of the fluid will settle in your elbow pinching your ulnar nerve. Don't do what I did and try to shoot a bow at 14 days. My incision wasn't as long in the front because I opted for orthoscoptic which may have been a mistake since they think it may need to be cleaned up some more.

Sorry to the OP for high jacking the thread.

Two phez, one turkey, one quail. But I am going out tomorrow, the last day, too.

4 roosters and 2 quail. I too quit early yesterday. My 3 year old setter was worn out. On the way to the truck in the last field he walked behind me! Something he's rarely done. Now 7 long months until the blue grouse opener Sept 1st. Oh, well. It was a good year.
