Christmas Gifts

My significant others son was with me at my friends house. He just so happened to have a new litter of gsp's. He asked for a dog for christmas, I said I have a great idea. So he is getting his first hunting dog. I'm also getting him his first gun, gonna start off with a .22 then move onto to moving targets with my grandpas .410. He has showed a lot of interest in hunting so I am excited to get him started. He is only 7 so you guys out there with kids have any pointers for me? I'm knew to the whole kid scene and dont want to do something to discourage him.

My brother and I got a framed, signed & numbered copy of this print for my Dad for Christmas. It depicts Holy Hill, a well known landmark in Wisconsin. It's a Jerry Gadamus print.

Labs, I posed a similar question on CDC and got some pretty sage advice. I'm sure you will have lots of success introducing him to hunting. If I can add anything that I have observed about letting my daughter tag along, I would say that it is important to look for a hunting opportunity with a high probability of success on the first time out, keep it short, and quit while you're still having a good time.

I'm sure you will both have a merry Christmas.

I agree with Toad. Look for success and keep it short. I introduced my two sons to hunting at a pretty early age. Unfortunately, at that time the bird numbers where we hunted were pretty low. They got a little discouraged and lost some interest. My oldest is now 18 and just wanting to get back into it. My other son is 16 and just really got interested the last two seasons. Mistake on my part but glad they are now ready to go.

Leaving at 5:30 am tomorrow morning to pick up "Duke' our new 9 week old pointing lab pup.
Ho Ho Ho Whoa Duke has a nice ring to it.

Happy holidays everyone.
