Choosing a new collar

I'm trying to decide between the sportdog 1875 and the Dogtra 2500 T&B. Both are close in price and I currently use sportdog brand now. Just looking to see what peoples opinion are. I know people have a favorite brand so I would like to hear it. Has anyone used these and what is your opinion of them? I hunt a GSP in thick cover at times. I also like the TT G 3 but I'd rather not spend the money. Or better why is it worth more money? Thanks.

TT in my opnion are bullet proof. You can run 3 dogs on the g3 and add them as you want vs dogtra that you can only have 2 and have to buy a 2 dog system off the bat. If I was running pointers I would have to save my cash and just get the alpha. Its worth every penny.

I have this Dogtra, I really like it.

Much more durable than the Tritronics that I use to have.

I would highly recommend.

I tend to stick with brands I like and I've never run anything other than a Tri-Tronics product on any of my dogs. I've never encountered even the slightest issue with reliability or durability. I had an ultra-aggressive Lab beat the crap out of my first Pro 100. It looked like hell after awhile, but still performed flawlessly.

I have a three-dog G3 system now that I absolutely love. I'm not anything approaching wealthy, but that's one category in which I just won't skimp.

My advice would be to buy the G3 and make up the price difference somewhere else.

I have the Dogtra 2500T&B (actually the 2502 as I have the 2 dog unit). It's on it's 3rd season and I have had ZERO problems. I love the unit. This is my 2nd Dogtra unit and had no issues with the first one either. Prior to that I had a TriTronics and that also was a great product. I believe that Dogtra and TriTronics are the two best brands on the market. The compactness of the Dogtra 2500T&B plus being able to control the beeper from the transmitter is was sold me on the Dogtra.

I would look into the Alpha, especially with the pointer. You may want to add a beeper on it as well. I have owned 3 different Dogtra setups that had to be sent back the the manufacturer for repairs before they were a year old, 2 of them on multiple occasions. I still have a 2502 but only use it on my springers because the thing is out of range before 100 yards.

Tritronics fan here.

I will never own anything made by sportdog. Everyone I know that has tried the collars end up with a different brand anyway. I am amazed at the battery life mine has. I very rarely hit Tue red button, so maybe that is why, but if I turn it off at night when I take it off, it will keep running for weeks. Couldn't be happier. I only wish I would have gotten the next step up so my remote would have a seperate button for the beeper collar...having to switch it to accessory mode gets old in the field.

The range, even in thick cover surprised me as well.

I have the 1875 and haven't had any problems. Had a Sportdog 1800 and added a beeper, 7 years and not one issue with the collar. Added the beeper collar to it and it worked great for 3 years and then the speaker went out. Sportdog didn't make that model anymore so they traded me my old collar and beeper for a new 1875 combo. Cost me less than $150.00 bucks for this trade and I felt this was more than fair considering the age of my old collar.

George recommended The Dogtra 2500T&B for My Britt.
The Beeper is priceless for a little pointing dog in the tall thick stuff.

Dogtra is the best collar I have used.

I'm a Dogtra fan as well, although my experience is with the older 2000 series T&B units. One word "BULLET PROOF" ok... two words. :D

I've used them for 7 years only changing out the batteries once last year. The battery charge on the 2000 series seems to last literally forever.

Have no experience with the 2500 series, but I'm sure they are fine units as well.

Another Brand that hasn't been mentioned but I've heard some good reports about thru breeders is DT Systems, specifically their SPT series collars with Jump and rise stimulation for training. Nice features that would interest me as a pointing dog owner for sure.

TT is all I have ever had. Their customer service is top notch. I turned in an 11 year old transmitter and receiver and they took 40% off my G2 order in 2008. Last year my beeper wasn't working, unable to shut off with the remove, I sent it in and they sent me a G3 beeper. I run my beeper on point mode, only when in the real thick stuff. Constant beeper and bells are annoying to many, but being able to locate and know when your dog is on point and can't see him is a great feature. A non-shock notification is also nice to have, TT has a tone and I think others vibrate. I like the G2/G3 transmitter size and shape better than the smaller transmitters. I'll stick with TT until their customer service goes bad.

As a favor to all I can order most any collar through my dog food distributer whole sale, and save you some money. If you like, just send me an email and can look up current prices. I got Dakotazeb his. And someone else too, been a while, can't remember.

TT. I've had the other brands mentioned on this thread, but the TT just keeps working. I have a G2 that I've been using daily for... I honestly don't know how long, long as they've been making the G2. I've replace batteries in collars but not the handheld. I also prefer Garmin Astro collars, no beepers.
