I've been out here in the great state of Kansas last couple days chasing chickens....I've learned A LOT....I want to give a BIG shout and THANK YOU to Jarbo03 for his hospitality and for my education on chickens....I really appreciate your help...had a good time hunting with you yesterday...wish you could have hunted today....my younger dog Ace had several points on chickens yesterday but birds were VERY jumpy...flushing out of range.....this morning we started off 20 minutes from the car with a nice point by Ace and a chicken in the bag!...hunted all day didn't see any more birds...I'm gonna hunt c

Ace pointing chickens...

and we're ON the board!

Great job Ace! Beautiful country. I always enjoy your post's and photos Rascal, I know you and Ace hunt hard and you look like you'd be a perfect hunting buddy.

Looks like Ace hasn't caught a shave lately:) Nice pics. Glad to have you polishing your boots in the beautiful Kansas grass! Especially happy you've had some success! Sorry for the 80+ degree weather. I could go the rest of the year without another 7, 8, or 9 as the front number on the temperature!

That's taking on the big country. Nice photos.

thanks guys...yes...was too warm for my liking but that's how it goes I guess....just got home...hunted for couple hours this morning before I left.....saw 6 or 8 birds get up bout 150 yrds away from us....then little bit later...saw another hunter come over the hill with his dog....was a WIHA. oh well...had a blast anyway

Was great meeting and hunting together for a couple fields. Wish we could have capitalized in the first field we walked, would liked to have been there. Definitely look me up when you get back, we'll get Ace on some ducks and geese also. Always nice to meet fellow upland chasers with the drive to get after the birds, as you've seen, chickens aren't for the faint of heart. Maybe next time the dove won't be so decoy shy!

Was a beautiful sight following a couple bearded dogs across the Kansas prairie. Water and ponds were of the utmost importance, Ace did handle the heat a little better than Taz.

yes Jerry I hope to make it back out for waterfowl and quail....I saw a ton of doves yesterday too everywhere I went....I think I heard some laughing...lol

Congrats on the PC. You have to put in some miles to get them pointed and in the bag most of the time.

I hate to think how many times I have had the dogs point a PC only to have them flush out of range when they see the hunter coming. But that is what makes getting a PC pointed and shot such an accomplishment.

Nice Job

I also made my first ever trip for Chickens this past weekend. First off, I want to thank Rascal for all of his help and insight as my trip progressed. I just wish I could have ended my trip as well as you. I hunted hard on a beautiful piece of Walk in ground. I did get them pointed twice, but like Rascal told me, they were extremely "SPOOKY" . The minute I made a move towards the dog they flushed wild, way out of gun range. The afternoon heat cut my trip short Saturday. Even though I didn't finish the job I did gain a ton of valuable experience. I'm hooked for sure, and I can't say thank you enough to Rascal for getting me fired up enough to give it a go! I will be back for sure.

glad you found some....I just was passing on the info that I had just learned from Jerry....lol yes..they are addicting....
