Changing an unconstitutional law in North Dakota

Well, not exactly but I’d like the pheasant season to be extended to the end of January in ND.
“In summary, to change a hunting law in ND, you need to propose the change, submit it to the NDGF, and engage with the legislative process, all while seeking support and building a strong case for your proposal.”
Before I submit this to game and fish do you think hunters would support it?
Does SD have a science based study that the extended season has increased populations? I bet it’s increased revenue.

After having it for a couple years in SD, you could argue it hasnt affected numbers any, as they were OK this year, even in SE SD (in spots). 15-20 inches of rain in a night during or right after hatch hit some places hard. The ration of 1:10 rooster to hen for breeding that Ive always read about kind of backs up the habitat theory for hen survival imo. I dont think a few extra roosters in January getting taken is going to affect much.
Last week, I went to what I assume is a hard hit public area within 20 miles of Sioux Falls and limited in less than an hour. I dont think much is forecasted to change the next couple weeks, except it’s going to be colder, so I feel like that opportunity could have happened mid January. I think hunters will support it. I have a feeling Noem had a lot of influence in the season extension, but Im just speculating.

Though it is nice to be able to hunt a time or two in January, I hunt both in SD and KS and just don't see enough hunters to effect the pheasant population. If the weather is really bad, as it can be in ND, most hunters aren't going to go anyway. I believe SD enacted their extension to keep up with Kansas and be able to attract out of state hunters for their business. It sounds like an arduous process, but because I live near ND and would like take advantage of January hunting, you've got my vote to proceed.

I am in favor of it. As an out of state hunter if I had the opportunity to hunt in January and the weather cooperated I would make a trip out.

I pheasant hunt any free time I get all season long, but I can't say I'd be in big favor of going through January. Perhaps give another week or say it closes the sunday closest to Jan. 10 (the years that Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday it can kind of stink closing that day since a lot of people have time off yet that week). Our Januaries are generally pretty inhospitable and I don't think the opportunity would be all that great. Let the birds rest, 3 months of chasing them is enough.

Could always try the climate change angle. Winter is coming later and later

I wish MN would alter/extend its season too. Starting it the second Saturday in October is ridiculous these days. Its 70 degrees and there's a sea of corn. September and October have essentially become an extension of summer here now.

I think it should more closely align with Iowa's season. Open the last Saturday in October and stay open a couple extra weeks into January.

The season extension through the end of January has the greatest affect on the lives of those consumed by pheasant hunting. A whole lot of folks are watching playoffs, ice fishing or just don't hate the pheasants enough to hunt them late season. Which is super glorious. Get the law changed. You'll thank me later. :)

North Dakota pheasant hunting in January, now that sounds like something you need some thick-bark to sign-up for! Not for women and children. Maybe the climate is changing enough to make it less inhospitable.

Colorado has been the end of January for as long as I can remember (though I think in my youth it might have been shorter??). Personally, I live for the January hunt. Better chance for snow cover, colder temps keep the birds holding tighter (sometimes), and I savor the loneliness of seeming to be the only one out there. That said, CO is not ND, so I don't know what conditions would be like up there. I have a sister and a nephew who both live in ND, but still haven't made the trip up for bird hunting.

ND gravel roads are much better than the secondary roads across most of SD. SD secondary roads are the absolute worst.

But ND is not very hospitable for much of January except for maybe the far western part of the state. January hunting in ND is not a destination that I would say ... I am going this week because that is the days I have off. If you can be flexible on dates, buy a license as you refill your tank at your first stop inside ND, and be ready to haul out of state in front of the unforecasted blizzard (roads can close for days including the interstate) then maybe go for it.

Growing up in ND ... December and even November were often harsh ... winter comes and it stayed. We would go on a day trip for sure when the temps were right ... can't imagine the drudgery of hunting there for 5-7 days straight. Can tell you all but a few locals (probably the two or three that post on this site) would be ice fishing in January.

Keep this in mind ...

North to South ... town H/L average temperatures for January ... but far below average is common.

Devils Lake ND 17F/0F
Jamestown ND 20F/2F >>>>>>>>>>> go west toward Dickinson ND 27/7 (North Dakota's banana belt ;))
Aberdeen SD 24F/5F
Huron SD 27/8
Mitchel SD 29/10

Did you annex Aberdeen? How far south from Aberdeen do I need to for my SD license to be valid? :p
