Hi all, have not posted any pics lately, been deer hunting and helping the boys to fill their tags, so bird hunting took a back seat for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Anyway, went out to get the boys deer tags filled ans decided to take take the shotgun along, just in case. Managed to get 2, but lost one (sure do miss having a dog with me!!!!). The bird hunting was cut short when my number 2 son got his doe. Nice animal. His brother didn't fair well this year, he had a buck tag, but didn't fill it. SO now that deer season is over....time for birds.

The things your dogs will do for you....

I was hunting near a Lake in South Dakota. I wounded a Rooster & it dropped about 30 yds out in the Lake with a broken wing. It immediately started swimming for the opposite shore. The orange & white French Britt pictured (CHase) saw it go down so he bee lined into the Lake & the race was on.
Chase got 20 ft from the Rooster & the bird turned around & flapped his one good wing at the dog to try to bluff him. Chase never slowed down so the Rooster turns back toward the far shore & continues swimming. Chase latched onto it about 10 ft. from the far shoreline & the cattails. Chase (as pictured)
hauls him back to me at the shoreline. He normally isn't much of a retriever. He usually will tackle one & stay with it till you pick it up. Was pretty proud of this boy. He earned himself an ice cream bar that night.

If you look close you can see the Rooster still has his head up.

Love it when a dog goes above & beyond.

That was a good retrieve. I think we've all lost a bird or two over bodies of water. Dang things swim pretty good for birds without webbed feet:confused:.

Job well done by your pooch.

Hi all, went out today with my son Will and my old reliable GSP Duchess. Was a good day, we each limited and Duchess worked as well as ever. She made a couple of real nice blind retrieves and without her, we never would have had the day we did.

I used my 16b John Wilkes:

Will used my 16b Charles Boswell:

Can't do much bragging as our bag limit in Ohio is 2 birds a person, but here is my pup with her latest days work, still licking her lips. I finally dragged my dad out for our first time hunting together in years, and I can honestly say, this thanksgiving hunt will go down in history. For the bragging portion, all of these birds were shot at distances greater than 40yds (we let the pup flush farther than most).

Hi all, went out today with my son Will for a short time. Was a crappy weather day, cold and windy (25mph). Tough hunting day, only managed one, didn't see many. Hope the weather turns for the better soon!

Hi all, went out after Church today for a very short hunt (family stuff this afternoon!) another very cold and windy day. Saw lots of birds, but very spooky, typical late season birds. Was able to scratch one down. Used my 12ga Buhag Hubertius:

I do hunt with everyone of them, even if it's just once a year. I do have to admit, I'm proud of my collection, I've been blessed!

Thanks again!

Do you have a favorite, that is an awesome collection by the way, how long did it take to get them and is there anything on your list you are planning to acquire down the road?

Hi and thanks again for the very kind words!!! They are much appreciated. I guess the old pat answer is: the one I'm shooting at the time. But that would be BS. I would say overall, my Purdey, what a wonderful gun, so nice and balanced. Just a gem. But, as far as cosmetics go, it would have to be my Arrieta 871. What a looker, wonderful wood, engraving is par excellent. Just a great looking gal.

As to what I'd like next, boy, what a question. It would come down to two, a high grade Westley Richards drop lock or a high grade Charles Daly by Linder. Both in 16ga BTW. But, I'm likely to change my mind!

Again, thanks so much!

Hey all, went out today with buddy Wade Burns and my son Will. It was a great day weather wise, low winds, sunny and 50. Everything melting and the back roads sloppy and slick. Hunting wise, terrible. Saw few birds and I was lucky and got the only bird today. Worked some prime areas, but nothing, oh well, just one of those days I guess. Even with the crappy bird numbers the hunt was a golly good time. Wade sure does makes it fun! Comical as always, good one liners all the time! Anyway, on to the pics:

Wade and Will with Wade's GWP Lakota (who has a NAVHDA VC title BTW)and my GSP's Duchess & Raina:
