Ammo prices

Ammo sure has gone up. I removed an old gun safe from the bedroom and found two boxes of Winchester Super X 16 ga 1 oz 6 shot, near as I can figure it dates from about 1995 and the sticker price--are you ready for this

---$3.99-- oh those were the days :D

Back when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's three bucks, or less, would get you any box of shotgun shells you wanted. Of course the choice wasn't too great then either. "Do you want Remington or Winchester and what size shot!" :)

I can remember when I was a kid so many years ago in the mid 60's my cousins and I would buy shells by the name of Alcan for right at $3.00. I still have a box of Alcan oveer powder wads a friend gave me some time back.

We used to shoot 100 to 200 targets a month at sporting clays in the late 90s, early 2000s. We always said it was cheaper than a round of golf and twice as much fun.... Not so cheap anymore... Not just the shells, but the targets cost more to make too, because of the oil.

It's now cheaper to play 18 holes with a cart then it is to shoot a 100-target round of clays. Whoda thunk it!

Edit: Well, that's not entirely true. If you factor in the 12-pack I drink when I play golf, I guess the prices are pretty close... :)

was buying that same load by federal as recently as 2 years ago at walmart for $5.99...didn't buy enough, though I did buy alot!

Interesting, when 1995...was the good old days.

I hate paying what we now pay but being a devil's advocate...aren't we making more than we were in the 90's so to me it's all relative. I know, go ahead and blast me but my first O/U came from Western Auto in Dalhart, TX. It was an Armsport and cost me $164...now I shoot, SKB's, Browning Cynergy Feathers, and 101's so I'm not one to complain to much about ammo prices. Just my .02 cents.

I filled a grocery cart last August at Academy @$3.99/box. They didn't have 16 ga on sale, but all the 12 and 20 you wanted.

Wal*Mart here usually runs a big sale in August, and they usually have 16 ga too.

Just last month I bought Federal 12 ga Target loads at Wal*Mart for $3.99.

Watch the sales, shop around, buy when it's cheap.

Discounted for inflation, ammo is cheaper now than it was in 1960, when it was about $1.75/box.

On that basis, gasoline would now be about $1/gallon.

And the average wage would be less than $10K/year.

I check out the beer sales to.

Bud Light pounders 18 for 15.99 this month.:)

Ammo, nothing fancy, Federal heavy load #4,5 lead. Fed Premium #2 non toxic where required and for the ducks. Something like $10-11 and $18 or so. :)
I do a lot of bird hunting with a $100 bucks or so worth of ammo.

Ah, beer and golf do go together! Do you find your game starts to go away as the 12 pack nears completion?:D

I find there is a "sweet spot" after a couple beers where I play more relaxed and confident, yet still retain my coordination. But if I get a Saturday with just my pals and no responsibilities... that sweet spot is long gone by the fourth or fifth hole.... My game generally is much better when I leave the 12'er at home.

But about ammo.... No more than I shot field loads last year, the current price of shells is irrelevant to my hunting budget. About the only time it is even a blip on the radar is when I am waterfowling with premium nontoxic loads. When you drop $60 for 20 shells, you pay a lot more attention to the types of shots you are taking...

I find after a few. I could open a pro shop. Simply because I hit so many in to the woods, that when I go looking for it, I never find mine but a dozen others go home with me.
 Shell prices do not seem to be going down. The places I normaly see them on sale just kept them this year as well.:( Good thing I got plenty for a year or two. Hopefuly after the war winds down it will turn around.
