I think the next few days will be near impossible to hunt. I would stay out of the tree's where you can bit hit by a falling tree or large dead limbs. I wouldn't attempt any duck hunting where a boat is needed either.

Let the dog out the back door this morning and saw the bbq grill had been blown a good 20 yards off the driveway. Not sure what kind of winds we got through the night, but during the day was bad enough.

Last year we had 85+mph straight line winds, blew lots of fences over, lots of buildings knocked down.

I thought I'd moved to Wyoming for a little while....the wind never stops up there, it just changes direction.

It's been blowing steady since yesterday at 25+ mph. It has been gusting to over 40mph. I wish that is was a north wind and it would blow some of those roosters from the Dakota's into Kansas...:D

Right now in Aberdeen, SD the winds are 31 mph with gust to 44 and they are suppose to get stronger this afternoon. The forecast says this is going to last through Wednesday night with potential for some snow tonight and tomorrow.

And "NO" I'm not going hunting!

cheesy,

You got wyoming pegged. The joke in wyoming ,is if you dont walk out the door at a 45 degree angle, you will be picking yourself up off the ground.:D

Tried to get out this morning before the winds were forecasted to start really picking up but then the rain started and felt like BBs firing against my face. Dog didn't want to hunt after the first hour so we packed it in and spent the rest of the morning scouting fields.

sorry you guy are getting a bit of wind. Do you have any damages from this wind. Any storm damages? Hope all is well. Mother nature can be a bitch.:)

I went out tonight for a quick hunt after work. Put up 5 birds and got off one shot. Roosters hit that wind and are gone before you can even get the gun to your shoulder.

A friend and I were in that wind hunting today. For sure, it's not exactly the best situation, but you go when you have the time, good conditions or bad.

Life is short. Hunt as often as possible.

It can be done

I hunted NW of Aberdeen. Was planning on hunting ducks first, but that seemed futile, interestingly ducks and geese flying around and happy to land in the middle of the lakes, no real pattern of seeking out shelter, waves on even the smallest pothole were impressive.

I started for pheasants and it semed hopeless, then it started raining a little and I was about to pack it in. But it stopped and as someone posted you are here so you might as well hunt.

Let me tell you the wind was deafening, I might wear earplugs today! the wind is disorienting, you are bounced around, almost knocked over, and it is like walking in 10 inches of snow when you head into it. It is too easy to fall into a rut of putting your head down and slogging, but you have to keep your head up and be alert, wear glasses to keep your eyeballs from rattling.

I had heard it is easy to loose a dog in the wind, and that is correct. They cannot hear you, nor probably smell you that well, I have two big running GSP's. I just kept them close with frequent light applications of the e-collar and did not let them go deep into the cattails for fear of them getting disoriented and lost.

The dogs actually worked a few birds, no points, but I did manage to kill 2 roosters on public land. It was satisfying and a lot more memorable than not hunting.

It blew a welded wire kennel i have for airing the pups out off the cement. Still snowing and blowing.

From the weather report this morning ,looks like the Dakotas and Mn, is in for the first big winter storm. You guys up there got a blizzard gone on?

Looks the same here in Northern Minnesota. 2-4" on the ground here. My son was on his way to work this morning in Duluth and he had a snowmobile blasting down the ditch along side him.

9 inches of snow on the ground at Twig and still snowing, just north of Duluth.

My wife just went to Grand Rapids Mn. We have 2-4" on the ground and 5 miles to the northwest of here. There is no snow at all.
