28 Gauge for Pheasants

My brother shot and killed a lot of roosters with his 28ga Remington 1100. This was in the heyday of birds, young fresh legs, and good Britts.

Pretty sure one season alone he killed over 100 grouse, huns and pheasants with the gun.

Worked great for birds under point. He simply did not try at 40 yards or more because more birds could always be found.

Thanks everyone for the input. Sounds like the 28 can be effective when used within it's range.
So next question, what choke(s) do people like for the 28 gauge on wild pheasant and quail. I understand that the two vary but where we hunt you never know for sure if the point is on a pheasant or a covey.
Best to all,
Wolf

Cyl/ IC for quail and IC/MOD for pheasants or for a pheasant/ quail mix.

Ditto on Quailhounds post. Cyl/ImpCyl for quail and Impcyl/Mod on pheasant. Late season Pheasant I change to mod/Imod.

It is just a fun gun to have, shoot and carry and one that shoots the best for me. One day I might own a 16 again, but my 20/28 double barrel set see's 99% of the upland action. I have not used the 20 gauge barrels much at all. Glad to see so many of us that enjoy the 28.....
