2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

I just bought my first pair of Danner boots, and I like them. I didn't get a real high-end model. Very comfortable boots, excellent traction.

Thanks Goose, I have owned Danners before and they are a comfortable boot for sure. The only issue I had with them was that they were never truly "water proof". They had goretex but I swear they leaked just a little bit from the first time out of the box and just leaked more as time went on.

Yes I also noticed that, and I noticed that they don't have a whole lot of cushion in the bottom of the boot but I do like them I have worn them in deep snow, and they performed pretty well, but I wish I would have worn Gators.

I got the Danner Recurves mainly for the weight. Terrible. Material where the lacing leather(?) meets the side panel came apart in less than 2 seasons. Had them repaired…and the repair is now coming apart. Have old pronghorns for back up. Still going strong. This the repair coming apart same as the original.

Over the years those pronghorn boots have bounced around on quality. Had a pair 20 years ago that lasted a long time, the leather finally worn thru. The next pair all the support in the heel area broke up in just a season or 2. But more recently some guys here seem to like them and have positive things to say anout them.

If theyre the Danner Pronghorns, very confortable. Expect stitching to come loose within 6 months. They WILL leak.
I think they are using glue now. Not stitching.

At least the ones I bought Jan 2024 are glued.

Mine do not leak, at least thus far. I use mine to deer, turkey, and pheasant hunt.

My Danners are on year 4 ... uninsulated, but where upland hunting no matter the temperature outside.

No leaks ...

I hunt quite a bit in the fall.

I use this on them:

Atsko Sno-Seal Water-Guard Extreme Repellent Aerosol

Mine were older than that by a few years. Went through 3 pairs in 4 years. Kept them oiled religiously. Every pair blew out a seam. They also went up about 100 bucks. If I ever are a pair for under 100 again ill buy them and just never wear them when its wet. They definitely are comfortable. But when theyre nearly 300 bucks, spend 70 more and get Italian made.

Black Friday I paid $110 for a pair of Danner boots. I think they're regularly like $189 or something like that. They are comfortable, but they do get a little bit of moisture inside if you're walking in deep snow. I'll have to look into possibly using some kind of snow seal on them, but they are not leather.
