2024 Season In Pictures, Guns, Game And Dogs

Hey all, another nice day, but like yesterday the roads to our areas were pretty slick and soupy. Couldn't get to them so had to switch gears.

The birds were pretty wild, but Addie was able to pin one down and a covey of Huns. Was able to get a double on the Huns, so was happy with that

I used my 16b Charles Hellis

Stay well my friends

Greg

I'm starting to look at your pics out of the corner of my eye. I switch guns once and can't hit a bull in the ass with a base fiddle! But you use a different classic every day??? Maybe you really shoot them with a beat up old 1100 and are a master cut and paster instead of a master shotgunner. 🍻.

I'm far from a master shotgunner, just average. All the guns I use fit me, so that's probably why I can shoot different guns effectively. It also helps to have a good dog!

The guns I'll shoot are SxS's. Been shooting them for the last 46 years. I just love them.

Stay well

My grandson and I had a great time in an unnamed southwestern state. Had some glitches including both being sick a couple days but persevered. Grandson had never shot at a quail. Missed the 1st shot then proceeded to smack down 22 in basically 2.5 days. Also celebrated his 21st birthday there. Thanks to a great guy and fellow member here. You know who you are!!

That kinda hits home

That kinda hits home
I have a lot of free time and watch a lot of these videos, it might be I’m prejudiced to black labs, but I think your dog and Kung Pows dogs are operating at a higher level than most, probably been through a formal program if I had to guess. It would be cool if at the end of the season you made a highlight video of every bird you shoot with about 30 seconds for each bird. That’s a nice dog you have.

Hey all, Happy New Year to one and all! Went out for a couple hours today, bit cool, but not much wind. Did see more than the last couple times out, but still wild. Was able to get a couple. Did shoot a limit, but lost one over the cattails
Addie did her best but no cigar. Addie did really well, very happy with her.

This weekend is the end of our season, hope to get out again

Stay well my friends

Nice work Greg. You have had a good season from the reports and pictures. I went out today for a quick hunt with my wife. We managed to get one to sit tight. I shot it and both dogs went to the spot they saw it hit. The rooster mocked me as he ran at me. He had done a 90 in from the field back into the draw I was standing in which was mostly thin grass. I saw his cockeyed wing as he ran into the base where there was heavier cover. The dogs got so confused. I swear that Rudy did figure 8’s and zig zags to get himself out of his predicament. Silly me for making a bad shot. Tails are longer, they are stronger which means more speed: important to get out front of it.

Their will to live is uncanny at times. My son and I were walking a waterway next to some milo stubble. He on the high side maybe 70 yards away slightly ahead. The dog ran back and went on point behind me at 40+ yards. I took a couple steps back towards her and he flushed maybe 50 yards from me and 100 yards from my son. I shot and he folded up 25 yards from the dog. The cover was heavy but she immediately got to the area and I was sure she got it as it landed in the stubble on the other side and she is a good retriever. After a few minutes and nothing I walked over there and couldn’t find it. I was sure he ran up through the stubble as she headed that way. My son stayed put up on the ridge. It wasn’t long before he said it ran by him with a broken wing. That bird traveled 100+ yards through gnarled weeds and came out on the other side. Eventually we got the dog up there and she chased him down 60 or so yards in the stubble. I think he finally just wore out.

Thank you, as for training I bought a handful of books and picked the things I liked best, didn't actually stick to one program. The highlight would be awesome but I don't have a laptop to edit on so I haven't been saving any of the videos. I haven't had a TV in about 8 years which helped spend time with the dog.
