Here we are two months into the season, the weather has been different, birds have been easy or very hard to find. But they are here

All you have to do is work for them.

If you work at it you will be successful even if you don't take a limit, it's been a fun year, new friends, good times and even a couple of truly outstanding moments. See next post for more pictures.

2014 continued

More pictures from the 2014 season.

And so it goes--best of all is that it's not over yet.

I like that setter.

Just visiting South Dakota from Georgia--think she had a good time. I think she is trying to butter up the landowner for next year---I think it worked.

I like the first picture of the roosters sneaking out of that field. Years ago out in Kansas we set up a camera and we're amazed at what came out of that field. Almost as soon as we started birds were running out the other end. Great pictures jim

I like the pics:thumbsup:
And really like your property and bird cover.

I've been at it now for 7+ years and I have no intention of stopping now. I can truly say it's been both a lot of work and also fun to do, but what is really so very satisfying is watching others reaping the joy of it all. No pressure, no fees, no promise of limits----- just plain old upland bird hunting----- as close to as I remember it from days gone by. :

I try and will continue to do so.

Here is a before habitat picture

Here is after the habitat is installed----wonder what the wildlife prefers?

Again before

After

Well done!

I am just getting started on my place. its quail there, but the same goal.

Good for you--wish you the best, just remember that if something fails to work it is not necessarily a bad thing---learn from it--seek help from those that have been successful. Get involved with the FSA and the NRCS at the county level and Quail Forever or Pheasants Forever or anyone else that wants to help.

Just remember that it takes TIME MONEY and lots of WORK

Do I think it is worth it---silly question---I only wish I had started on it 15 years ago. If this city raised boy can do it ---ANYONE can.:D

Hey! That's me!

I'm one of the "chosen frozen" in SDJim's photos; reddog says my handle should be "cold front," 'cause every time I leave sunny Carolina for South Dakota, the place sets a new record low. But--what a great time we had! Jim is doing a fantastic job of habitat provision; if only the weather had cooperated...but as he himself says, "Mother Nature bats last." And this was a grand slam. Maybe next year...

Somebody: How do I post photos??

I've uploaded a photo to Photobucket; but what do I copy from that site, and paste into my Forum note, to have the photo show up? Please, don't give me the "Dig a ditch" version; I need the "(1) Step on the shovel. (2) lift dirt..."
Thanks,
Beach004
Oops; I just did, I guess; see the photo above, of my son-in-law (the tall one) discussing with SDJim how I could have possibly missed that bird three times...

Had a fantastic time at Jim's and Sadie was trying to butter you up for next year. I think she pointed over 20 pheasant and I should have killed a limit every day. The birds did not cooperate however, but I wasn't sorry! It was about having fun and watching my dog have a good time. It was just over too quickly! We're sure building some good memories there. If I fail at attaching pictures Jim I will email them and you can put them up Jim. thanks you and Clora Karen again from Sadie, Karin , and me. I really enjoyed hooking up with Stan as well. Good Lord willing we will see you next year.

Up loading pics. not working for me! Will email you Jim.

Another day a field in South Dakota--met new UPH members--saw lots of birds and even got some--one thing we did not lack was Dog Power

left to right: Terry (Chad's father), Chad (BeirlSetters), Deb (Chad's wife) and Dakotazeb

All in all it was a very nice late season hunt.

Lets go hunting

Great job Jim!!! Photo's are awesome and look at the dog power!!! I wouldn't miss that truck going down the road either!!!:coolpics::cheers:

My family spent Mon/Tues hunting with George- Dakotazeb. Its always great to spend some time with new people. We ventured over Tuesday and spent the day with Jim hunting his beautiful property. Jim's efforts really shine through once you step foot on the property. It's the kind of place we all dream of. Jim once again I really appreciate your gracious invite to hunt it's a day that my family won't soon forget.

I have hunted in SD for the last 20 years and the last two days were probably the best I have experienced getting to know George and Jim. What else can you ask for great friends & good dog work.

Its not all about the pheasants I think more importantly it's the friendships we forge through the hunting we all love.

I will try to post some pics later for all to see once I have time.

Good luck to everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!
