Darn nab it--nothing goes as planned. Wonder why the landowner was mad--I mean all he did was pay the taxes and expenses of land ownership what rights does he expect---good riddence I say

i've never understood how one can enjoy trespassing while hunting. When i was younger i went on trips with guys that wanted to do that crap, i never went with them again. I have always felt funny while walking a roadside in south dakota, or un posted land in north dakota. Just never has felt right to me. Sounds like they got what they deserved.

EXACTLY! The last thing I want is stress while hunting.

They were hunting on POSTED land! Their karma account went straight south when they did that.

last time i went to ND one of the guys kept trying to hunt posted land, i couldnt figure out why as the stress would be too much for me. Respect for the land owners is a must. Funny thing though the same guy went around posting land here that wasnt his to keep everyone else out, needless to say we dont talk anymore.

Chalk it up...

Understanding that these TX boys had probably planned this trip long ago and anticipated the trip. One thing you always have to consider is weather - something you can't control. It's always going to be a factor.
However, what you can control is calling ahead and trying to get permissions, visiting forums (like UPH here) and getting information so they are prepared ahead of time and could possibly lower their expectations some.
Hunting costs big money and if you look at it like license ($100), gas from TX ($500+), hotels, etc...it adds up and if you get 1 rooster that rooster costs you $1000+...then hunting is not for you. You can't put a price tag on an animal like that and risk trespassing charges, etc.
Those guys can't tell me that they didn't enjoy the laughs driving up, getting away from their routine and stresses...isn't that what is about more than anything?
I've been on many hunting and fishing trips with buddies that include travel and lodging and had it ruined by weather alone. So it's what you do in the meantime to salvage the trip and still have a good time.
Someone above was politely pointing out some things and they should be counting their blessings.

I am sure they drained the "luck" account also. So there hunting future may not be to bright.

How do you suppose the conversation went between the hunters before going out there. "So I see it posted guys, ya'll think we should head on out into dat dar field n git em."....

Obviously they could not read, or, thought they were special, or, the rules don't apply to them. We all know people like this.

They probably would not be welcomed back either.

I'm from Texas (no, not one of the guys on this trip) and we make the 1000+ mile journey to SD every year. Usually end up around 3000 miles for the weeklong trip. It does get quite expensive but I believe you can't put a price tag on what makes you happy. We have a great time on the drive up and then seeing/hunting with family is priceless. The comroderie of it all and hunting our dogs is what it is all about. Can't imagine needing to trespass with all the available land to hunt and don't need the stress of it. Looking forward to next Oct. already.

GOOD I hope they tell all of their friends and the message keeps getting passed along how lowsy of a state I live in. That means more birds for me and all of the other hunters that are respectful. They are obviously hunting for the wrong reasons. Some people think that the size of their pocket book gives them special privelages, its not just NR sometimes I think the residents are worse. It only takes a few bad apples to ruin it for all.

p.s. I too am a big believer in Karma glad it bit them in the a$$:)

Sounds like a country western song...

Karma is a bitch.

I also couldn't hunt posted land without permission, I don't need stress while hunting.
