Chalk it up...
Understanding that these TX boys had probably planned this trip long ago and anticipated the trip. One thing you always have to consider is weather - something you can't control. It's always going to be a factor.
However, what you can control is calling ahead and trying to get permissions, visiting forums (like UPH here) and getting information so they are prepared ahead of time and could possibly lower their expectations some.
Hunting costs big money and if you look at it like license ($100), gas from TX ($500+), hotels, etc...it adds up and if you get 1 rooster that rooster costs you $1000+...then hunting is not for you. You can't put a price tag on an animal like that and risk trespassing charges, etc.
Those guys can't tell me that they didn't enjoy the laughs driving up, getting away from their routine and stresses...isn't that what is about more than anything?
I've been on many hunting and fishing trips with buddies that include travel and lodging and had it ruined by weather alone. So it's what you do in the meantime to salvage the trip and still have a good time.
Someone above was politely pointing out some things and they should be counting their blessings.
