sounds like a good hunt, except for the deer. I was in norton around opener and i have never seen so many deer. I am waiting for the weather to get nasty, that will get them out of that short stubble.

O.P. great story! We just look at that expanse of stubble and tell ourselves , no way I can pin them down! If you get good weather or hit it different then everybody else you can have success!!!! I have seen those birds loaf all day in the stubble. It sure is fun when a plan comes together!!!:10sign::cheers:

We were in Norton, Thursday through Saturday.

We got a few birds pointed and shot. But it was tough hunting most of the time. Birds were really spooky.

Where did you stay. We stayed at the 5 star HillCrest  :D

i stayed one night there to in room 17 in the silver dodge to the left as you pull in what were you drivingi seen bird hunters towards the back in a white suv and other trucks around? and i did see one guy walking a setter fri night i usually go up and talk but he was a little far to say something.

Sounds like a great trip except for the deer attacks truck episode. Sad part is you could have just as easily hit the deer in midtown Kansas City, like a friend of mine. He wasn't having nearly as much fun as you! Maybe it's time to start the whitetail elimination society.

OaP-- my buddy and I consider ourselves hardcore hunters. This weekend was supposed to be Friday through Sun. We came home last night after very dismal results. Wilson Lake has some nice coveys of quail and few roosters.

Just one of them years!

southern i love quail hunting i will def give it a try out there i really like that norton area it was my first time out there and i def wanna go back i think its lacking on the quail but ive heard there a few there it is def parrot country im coming back in a few for sure.how many coveys did you guys see a day out there you can pm if you want

old i tell you what that area prob has the most mule deer i have ever seen i mean they are freakin everwhere and i mean some dandy bucks out there i saw one on walk in that i would have shot anytime in season of course it was the biggest mulie buck ive ever seen alive a5 by 5 tall and thick and past his ears wide!!!

I'm glad they were muley's, I have a soft spot for mule deer, the darn whitetals are crowding the muley's out. I like those big muley bucks, I've seen a few in the Nebraska sandhills framed against the sky at the top of a ridge, I thought at first glance were elk! Was the deer- truck assailant a muley or a whitetail?

We were in the back building, room 30. I was driving the dark blue F150 that was covered in mud. I would bet that was me walking the setter, over by the pool.

The white SUV was some guys from Tx it think.

We had a tough time getting roosters pointed. Then when my setter pointed them I fricking missed most of the time.

We found 3 or 4 coveys of quail in the trip. Its not a great place for quail, but you will run across a few.
