1000 Bird Sighting

wheres the video proof of this supposed 1000 bird hord?

What reason does he have to lie? I have seen a 500+ bird flush come out of a quarter section. He has the land and the habitat. If you don't believe him cough up the $$$ and go see it yourself.

Cambell76 you have 26 posts and your picking a fight over this. This is not what this forum is for its to share advice and help other hunters.

Pics

Is this one of those fish stories, the ones without a pic....the ones that go from a 20" fish to a 28" fish, just cause there isnt a picture???

:D

I would like to see a picture of that many birds, now that would be cool! I just saw about 13,500 birds...in a pen at Gold Meadows and they are like mini turkey! :p

Thank you Tbear, you are exactly right! This forum is to share advice and help other hunters, but you did forgot the 3rd reason for this site. The forum can be used by commercial hunting operations to advertise their product!(that is the part I love most about this forum!)

If you guys have never seen a 500 or 1000 bird flush you are hunting the wrong places. I saw that at least a half dozen times last year. Hey Jonny b, you've hunted for like a hundred years. :D how many birds were in that scrub draw in Dec? 1000? 1500?

In average years in South Dakota it's common and almost expected to see 1,000 bird flushes. That's why South Dakota is the best.

Am reluctant to divulge (observing) large quantities of birds on this site, for fear of being stalked!

However, last December, somewhere in South Dakota, I did see hundreds of birds, in several groups, flying 600 yards in front of us. Have not seen that many pheasants in 15 years. We tried using 22's but, alas, couldn't hit them...

I'm forced to return to the scene next weekend.

LOL. This thread is great. People arguing about a 500 or 1000 bird flush day. Where I'm at in Wisconsin a 2 or 3 bird flush day is a good day. Leave your adding machine in the truck and just enjoy the day in the field watching your pup work. :)

No doubt. Especially late season when they bunch up:thumbsup:

About 4 or 5 years ago in SW Kansas we witnessed 3-4 hundred birds fly out of some corn and go to roost in the CRP field which we hunt. So, the next evening we decided to lay in the weeds and try to pass shoot them as they flew over top of us. Think we might have shot one, missed quite a few, but had a ton of fun trying to do it. Anyone ever tried that?

in 2009, we were hunting Saturday evening of 2nd weekend. Corn on one side of the road and CRP what was being stripped up into hay on the other. We hid behind the bales and spread out. Then two guys walked the edge of the corn. As the birds got up they hit about 20-30mph wind blowing from the CRP into the corn, They had to fly right into it to get to those 50foot wide strips of CRP. We'd wait till they got close and then jump up. There were often 5-6 roosters in a group, so many you got overwhelmed just deciding who to aim at. After we had walked the whole road, we walked back and collected the pheasants we had killed and set on top of hay bales (there were too many to carry and there was too much shooting to get them into a vest). You would come up on a hay bale and it would be a box of spent shells on the ground.

Damn was that fun! Needless to say we filled out and went home right after that. When we got back into the trucks, the dogs were just wild. They were pissed to have missed out on so many birds and so much shooting. If we had hit our mark even 50% of the times, we would have easily had 30-40 roosters. As it was the 6 of us all got our fill.
