    Gaiters?

Yes, my over-the calf gaiters do indeed reduce drag, as well as all the other benefits mentioned in this thread. Waist-high thick cover will still slow me down, but from the knee down, I think I have less dragging in the cover. I really only use these anymore ( have gone to LL Bean's jeans with...

    Gaiters?

I've used my old Sierra Designs hiking gaiters from the '70s out upland hunting trips for many years. mine are the over the calf length, they button, zip and cinch around the bottom under your boots. I NEVER leave on a hunting trip without them. highly recommend !

    How was it?

I don't do Opening Weekend, but went right after that. Strong winds made it seem pretty cold. DRY conditions are not ideal for your dog's scenting either. TBS, we saw surprising large number of birds. Extremely poor shooting resulted in only 2 roosters bagged for each hunter I was with over 2...

Thanks for the reply. I have a couple of guys set up to hunt with me next week, but after that my plans are open. I will try and hunt through mid-December depending on when our next Grandchild is born. I will keep you advised. So, tell me a little more about you and the Ruger. Thanks again...

    Pretty dismal season so far

I also believe that the Colorado season will be pretty unspectacular in terms of the number of pheasants and quail encountered out there this year. The adventure and fun of the pursuit from a day afield is wonderful, nonetheless. I do want at least a couple of contacts a day to keep me from...

Can anyone with a bird dog get away during the week to hunt private land in Phillips County ? I have access to lots of acreage but no dog.

I only go out during the week - I'm retired -. Have made contact with farmers over the years and have permission to access literally 1,000s of acres of private land. BUT, I don't have a bird dog anymore so the hunting and retrieving is less than optimal, as you might well imagine. Right now...

single user clay pigeon thrower ?

I like the looks of the Do All Outdoors, but.... the reviews of it are not so good at all. Reddog - is yours a recent purchase ? the reviews I've seen says that the product is not as shown on the website , lots of alignment issues, broken clays, only throws about 20 yds. PLUS, no customer...

    SE Colorado quail hunting

I have done it once about 8 -9 years ago. extreme SE corner kind of where Kansas, Colorado and Oklahoma all meet. Walked around on public land and didn't see anything. Finally saw some scaled quail at a deserted farmstead - perfect spot for them, but the landowner who lived about a 1/2 mile...

Anyone interested in hunting Phillips County private land Nov. 12th thru 15th. ?

Hi Guys, I am bummed that neither of the gentlemen I met on this site last year can get away to hunt during the week after opening weekend. Opening weekend is too crazy for me and as I'm retired now, I can get away during the work week. I am fortunate to have access to some nice private lands...

I have access to private land; Looking for a weekday hunting partner w/ dog(s).

Greetings and Merry Christmas to all ! I am mostly a lurker on this site for a couple of years now. I have access to a good amount of pheasant acreage in Phillips County. I'm 70 y.o., retired and only willing to go during the work week - at least until late in the Season. I am in good shape...

How high does wild Pheasant fly on a typical flush

Guys, I'm practicing my crossing shots on clay pigeons at my club on an adjustable trap. I was able to connect pretty well this morning on both left-to-right and right-to-left shots, which was kind of a rare morning for me. My question is: I am thinking most flushes from a wild rooster...

two shots on the same Rooster ?

last season was my first hunting on wild Roosters in 15 years or so. I was pretty discouraged with how many birds I knocked down that could not be found, even with good bird dogs and other hunters helping with the search. That being said, I am thinking that this next season I will try and...

Hi All, I live in Colorado and hope to hunt birds in the fall .

I no longer have my beloved Springer Spaniel and I miss hunting behind her very much. I have joined the forum in hopes of finding an outfitter / guide / lodge / other hunters somewhere that use Springers and I get the chance to hunt with those great little dogs again.
