Why hasn’t the brood report been posted?

The report on quail in southeast Kansas sure isn’t consistent with what I and others have been seeing in my area. I’ll be out there regardless, and will enjoy it whether I get into a lot of birds, or just a few.

    Is it worth it?

For the experience? Absolutely! I wouldn’t trade my time out in western Kansas for anything. Sometimes I get lucky and bring home a few birds, too! ;)

    Fall Turkey

I don’t hunt them in the fall, but I have pleasantly been seeing a bunch of birds around. They finally had a good hatch in my AO this year.

How are things shaping up for the hatch?

Getting some healthy rains out in the far west now. They needed it.

Once in a very blue moon, I’ll see one in Chautauqua county.

    Quail Whistles up for 2020

That’s definitely the case in my part of southeast Kansas. I wasn’t around for the glory days of quail hunting back in the 50’s and 60’s. But as for the recent quail boom we’ve had for the past 5 or so years, I’ve heard more whistling and seen more quail this spring and summer than I ever have...

How are things shaping up for the hatch?

I’m covered up in quail here in southeast Kansas. I’m hearing and seeing lots of birds every day, everywhere I go. Glad to see those pictures of the pheasants! I’m optimistic for this season.

    Pheasant Crow Counts

Yeah, that seems like a good spot.

    Headed to Kansas

They can be really good, depending on where you go. Some of them get even more pressure than WIHA though. I’ve had some darn good shoots on state wildlife areas.

    Any preliminary info?

It’s shaping up to be the best pheasant hatch we’ve had in Kansas for several years. Hearing from farmers that they’re seeing lots of hens with sizable broods while cutting wheat. We usually have similar weather patterns with Iowa, so I’m hopeful you guys will have another great hatch this year...

First ever pheasant hunt-- I need to pick your brain

Well, I just attempted to post a long winded post that took me an hour, and then it didn't post. So that's a kick in the nuts. So, I'll condense my point that I tried to so eloquently articulate. I'm from southeast Kansas, and have hunted my entire life. As you're likely aware, there are no...

Taking my duck dog upland hunting...

Howdy everyone, the season is fast approaching. I'm no stranger to hunting, at all. But I will be as green to pheasant hunting as my year and a half old lab. We don't have any pheasants here in eastern Kansas, but I plan to head out west with my young dog this year. He performs excellent...

    It's wet in Kansas!

The whole state has gotten some amount of rain or another. The fields in low areas are starting to flood here around Manhattan. We've gotten several inches at least. Looking at the 24 hour precipitation map, it looks like north central Kansas has gotten soaked, with over 4 inches in some places...

    Pheasant spotted near Manhattan, Kansas

I am in my first semester as an agronomy student at Kansas State University. I have always wondered if there are any pheasants around here, as I have heard that there are. I have seen several coveys of quail around, but yesterday as I was driving back from Tuttle Creek Lake to roost some turkeys...
