Getting Old Sucks

Well, I believe I’m done for the year. A life time of hard use has used up the miniscus in my left knee. I’ve had my right knee done a couple of years ago. So, surgery later this month and 10 months to dream of next season.

This is not the way I wanted to end my hunting season, but everyone has a price to pay for mistreating their body when they were younger and this is my price. It was well worth it.

I can’t wait until next year.

Depending where you are hunting, you could have had 3 more weeks of season, right? Those birds could use a break from your fury too, they might band together and sent a "get well soon" card! Hope everything goes great in the surgery and you have a good recovery/rehab. You will be a machine in the fall!

I’ll know more this Tuesday. I meet with the orthopedic surgeon then. Who knows, with a little luck, I might get out one more weekend before the season ends.

No shit. a couple years ago I started wearing hinged compression braces on my now 67 year old knees when hunting upland. They really cut down the pain at the end of the day.

12 weeks ago I underwent reverse shoulder replacement on my strong hand shoulder. I started shooting shotgun again this last weekend and the new bionic shoulder works fine.

I also bowhunt & shoot competitive archery. I've won two state championships and place 3rd once in the last 4 years. The shoulder started giving me problems mid-way through the 2025 winter indoor 3D season and tapped out at the end. I was very frustrated with my 3rd place finish this year as I was only 9 points out of 1st, until two weeks after the season ended when I was shown the X-rays of the shoulder. After that, I considered it almost a miracle that I placed 3rd.

12 weeks post-op my archery mojo is probably 90% back, with no pain. I'm really looking forward to the start of bow season in a week & a half as well as the start of the winter indoor 3D season in January...

Good luck with the surgery. I'm about to turn 81, have been blessed with good health so far and don't own a recliner.
8 months until I turn 80. Feel blessed to be in as good of health as I am in spite of T-Cell Lymphoma, Afib, Type 2 Diabetes, high bood pressure and colesterol. Other than that I'm great! :)

That's the attitude that keeps you "young"! Made it past # 81 and still in good enough health to be packing up the RV for the annual pilgrimage to Pheasant country. Still don't own a recliner :)
