Range-Pointing Dog

Most folks will say the 870 is the best all around shotgun. I always forget to pump the damn thing. I like doubles myself. I probably shoot my Ruger Red Label the best, but am dying to get out there with my newly acquired 20 bore W. Richards SxS the wife bought me this year first time I ever bought gun specifically for my fit and being a left handed shooter.

I'd vote for 1100 20ga. lightweight. If I had to pick one gun. Thank heaven I don't have to! I did shoot one for many years, happily. The problem you encounter with sxs doubles is the shorter action and the drop affects the accoustomed sight plain. Need a longer pull, 15" or or more, and a straighter stock to approximate the same sight plain as a an auto or pump. Old doubles were built for a "head up" shooting position, fashionable in the victorian age.

Old and new I agree 100%. Anything over 2 1/4 Drop at the heel and it messes with the sight plain. That is why I passed on a Parker and went with the W. Richards. It's 14 5/8" LOP and 2 1/16" DOH.

or- you and VJohn- we each run one dog with no Garmin, no shock collars- on PC's in the area you choose- the one with the best dog has to buy supper- the one with the poorest dog has to clean the birds and brush the dogs

sorry you feel that way about a meeting VJohn- can understand- I come across wrong to everyone

regret- think my Britt's would have enjoyed a day in the field with your V's

Jim,
I suppose that these sorts of things can get lost in the translation... I've never had anything against you personally... Remember, you were going to crash at the house a while back. But I don't want to compete when I'm going hunting. I just want to focus on the dogs and their manners and what happens between them and the birds. If I want to compete, and when I do, I'll enter them in a trial with a couple of judges and I'll go at it that way.
I suspect that I wouldn't mind hunting with your dogs.

And yes, I like the 870 too. I currently use a Remington Sparta and it weighs a ton. :(

Like dad always said: If everyone liked the samething there would be one heck of a line at one womans house...:cheers:

:(

never thought you did-
I was up at Perry Lake- intended to show up at the training day-
rained like crazy- camp totally soaked- spent the better part of Sunday tryng to dry things out before loading the Escape- have quite a story to tell about that night

stopped in and spent the night with my son- then headed south for PC's

I'll be going back- there is some issues with my property and the renters
I'll swing thru Manhatten- buy you a coffee

last some years I've taken to just enjoying good dogs in the field-
reason I have some pictures- sometimes never carry a gun

generally not competitive- unless called upon
