Makes sense, if you kill the ones that give a warning rattle and the only ones that reproduce are the ones that don't rattle.....well, the offspring just won't rattle. I'm no biologist, but it sounds logical to me.
We've ran into snakes the past two years in Ulysses on Opening Weekend. They've been in the same CRP field and I'm vowing to not hunt there this year unless the temps cool off. One was a bull snake and the other was a footlong rattle snake. I was thinking maybe we'd hunt the feed fields this year in the afternoon it's still warm out Opening Weekend. My thinking is the snakes would less likely be in the cultivated stuff as opposed to the grass. What do you guys think?
KB,
I'm right there with you on not wanting to hunt when it's 70 degrees. I love Opening Weekend, but it's not worth tip toeing through the fields worried everytime the dog starts making sent. They need some rain out West or it's going to be a rough one on the dogs.
Does anyone know who has that vaccine for your dogs around KC? I have been callin around and can't find it anywhere ..even called KSU Vet school. Also it is real dry out west and the 90 day forecast per the farmer said hot and dry...so take lots of water for your pups and you. If it is over 70 will be at Sue's Cozy Tavern in La Crosse watchin the games.
No doubt. If it's that hot, we'll be seeking a/c and cold beers. I didnt' get to hunt the KS opener last year because of a friend's wedding, but I hunted in Missouri and it was plenty hot that weekend! On Sunday it was like 90 by 11:30 or something close to it. We're packing fishing rods this year. If it's hot, I am hitting the river.
Don't you guys have someone who does snake avoidance training nearby? If I only had $50 and the choice of the vaccine or avoidance training I'd do the training.

I personally have snake avoidance instinct....no need to get myself trainedSeriously, my problem is a terrible fear of snakes. I scream like a girl when I see them unexpectedly....always have.
You guys crack me up! Lions, tigers, bears, and.... snakes??? What else can we talk about to freak out out-of-staters?
