Beware: Snakes & Prairie Dog Towns

Snakes arent so bad, its those damn spiders that give me the willies. I've bailed off a mower in the middle of the city and dropped my pants cause I thought a spider was crawling up my leg. Turned out to be a grasshopper, better safe then sorry.

Everytime I drive by those damn varmits, I wish I had a .22 or something to just shoot them with...pling, pling....that would be so much fun....

I would like to have a .223 from about 100yards away and bam!!

We all have our fears don't we? Even if they're unjustified, it seems to be the way we're wired.

This came from Bob at Oakland County Pheasants Forever in Michigan. Check out the link below...

Ryan, my dog Joules got bit by a rattlesnake at Highland Rec area. Were I have run dogs for 10 years and they have trials and tests there for years. First time I have had and heard about anyone getting their dog bit by a rattle snake. Was on the local news.

This is a pic from near Vivian South Dakota at a relatives place. They gathered these snakes up. I believe they were going to have the venom extracted for anti venom. Then killed. As you can see they gathered these in Oct. of 2009. That's pheasant hunting season. Snake season isn't over. They had their dog bitten and at least one of their horses. They are worried about the kids getting bit.

Told my wife yesterday not to open the freezer. She asked "Why, what have you put in there now?"

Toad, don't forget to come by in December, I don't know how long I can keep her out of there. :)

Byrd, I certainly will NOT forget! I will be in Dodge the second weekend of December. Maybe we can hit some WIHA together or grab some Mexican food and a frosty one some evening.

If your wife objects to having "it" in the freezer you could always drop it off with my family out there. Just be sure to tape the bag closed and tell them it is a "fish" for me to taxidermy. Hopefully they won't open the bag...

I think I have decided to make a rifle sling out of it. I'll look like a real mountain man, or possibly like more of a redneck depending on who you ask...

I hate driving my mower through the big spiderwebs and then you can feel them on you but no matter how much you rub your face, hair, arms, etc, you can still feel the web on you.... I guess the spiders don't bother me that much, but the webs sure irritate me to no end.

BTW, welcome to the Kansas forum. Are you the Labsnslabs from CDC? I go by FishTaxi on that forum.

Toad, that would be me. I figured I would run into somebody on here from CDC. I'm just to lazy or uncreative to come up with a seperate handle. Let me know if you ever make it over this way, the boat is always ready to go.

Thanks for the invite on the fishing. From reading your fishing reports, I'm sure you could teach me plenty.

I should see if the admin would change my handle to Fish Taxi. When I registered on this site, I was planning on getting a lab pup and naming it Toad. That never happened and we just had another baby this Spring, so I'm guessing that Toad will be on the backburner at least until we are out of diapers. I already have 2 hunting dogs that got neglected this Summer with the baby craze, no need to waste a pup too.

Anyway, it's good to have you on the site. The chatter picks up here as things are slowing down at CDC, so it works out nice.

So as not to hijack this thread, here is a pic of a little Western Kansas rattlesnake that I taxidermied for a friend. He was shot during a prairie dog hunt. The quality of the work is mediocre, but it was my first time doing one.
