Shooting style

So why do they put 2 beads on some shotguns and I read about guys seeing the figure 8? If youre not supposed to see the bead whatsoever.
For me, I only use the 2 beads to ensure consistent mount when shooting trap. Once my mount is set in the exact spot on my shoulder, comb is touching my cheek in the right spot, the beads are stacked or spaced where I want them, I call for the target and never see the beads again. My eyes are locked on it, and the gun follows my eyes.
When hunting, IMO, 2 beads (our even 1 bread) are unnecessary. It's all reaction by following the bird your eyes. The gun mount is the most important muscle memory exercise practice to improve consistency.

Hope this helps someone or answers your question.

If you think a shotgun is to be aimed like a rifle, you probably struggle to hit any crossing targets.

This first video may help to understand why.

You use the bead, and you close your left eye,and get your cheek right up on the stick. Don't worry about expensive ammo, and orange. Wear. Wear camo, and shoot cheap ammo. Do not pay to hunt.

center beads do absolutely nothing in hunting scenarios. As a matter of fact, if you try and line up beads you're probably going to miss. They are for target shooting only. The figure 8 you refer to is to insure you have your head in the exact position to ensure your pattern goes the exact same place hi to low. It is basically to take one small problem out of the equation. Cheek pressure. If you put a center bead on a relatively good shooting gun, don't be surprised if you're shooting goes to crap, because now you're shooting high. For a hunting gun in my opinion, you are better off to practice pulling up. Close your eyes, pull up then open them. Look at how much barrel you see between your eye and the bead. Adjust your cheek pressure accordingly to change your pattern, up or down.

I do sometimes put a center bead on my turkey guns. I pattern using the figure 8. Then adjust my hold accordingly. Hold will usually be wattles or below. Keeps me from shooting too quick at the head and wasting the upper part of the pattern. I also use it on my old model 12 trap gun to ensure my face is wright before I call for the bird.

Enough of this BS, Goose…give us the important stuff! You’re an untapped fountain of wisdom; I need relationship advice. Start a new forum? Not sure…but I know this: you’re the guy. Let’s get cracking! Cologne? Never wear it…should I? Are we still opening doors for the ladies? Paying the dinner bill all the time? Dating is tricky, you need to lead us in these challenging times. Dogs crated when we bring a new gal over? Lots of meat on this bone, this is gonna be good….

Okay, if the girl doesn't hunt and ride motorcycles and water ski no don't date. Her. Always wear cologne, aqua velva. Yes, always open the door for a for anybody. As for paying the dinner bill, yeah I suppose. As far as pain to hunt, don't do it. Don't wear orange, don't pay $40 for a box of shells, don't drive a suburban, don't grab your buddy's ass.

After reading your question, I was puzzled. Not by your question, but by my own shooting. I believe it was instinctive, gun came up, bird went down. Don't remember specifically looking at bead, or the bird. Must have been doing one of them but I honestly don't know. Not much help, just shoot how you're comfortable, and get results.
Same. Heck, I can't even tell you if I keep both eyes open. It is like it just happens without thinking about it. Keep at this for a couple more decades and you'll get on to it.

I see the bead in my peripheral vision. I think. When all is going well, I’m not sure I see it or if I’m just aware of it. I prefer a small metal bead and if I have a fiber optic, I want it to be a Tom Knapp style one. The orginal bead was missing from my Benelli Legacy and one of my 48 ALs. I put a Tom Knapp bead on the Legacy and its OK because I can only see it in one eye. Whoever had my 48 AL before me put a generic fiberoptic bead on it and I hate it. I took it off and I will replace it with a factory original. Not because I think I really need it but because I don’t want to leave the threads exposed. I’ll probably put a little metal bead on my Legacy too. I’m just not a big fan of fiberoptic for wing shooting.

That goes without saying. I see these huge groups of guys, and all I can say is that all those guys are grab ass types.
I have noticed that guys that protest about ass grabbing too much will grab an ass or two when nobody is looking… sometimes they get caught and act like it was the first time.

BTW I am grateful my wife doesn’t hunt. She does her thing and I do mine.

I guess it's okay to grab your wife's ass while out hunting. My opinion is, don't take your wife on a hunting trip.

Although I don't think the bead makes that much difference, I do prefer a bright colored sight. Not enough to replace the factory sight with one but I do prefer them. I'm not sure why but it might be that when I hit or miss the image of where the bead was sticks in my mind more. Or it may be that all through my teenage and young adult life I carried that old beat up 37 Ithaca 16 with the original bright bead.
