Long tail feathers?

My longest (at least in recent years) was just over 25". Last one Sam and I shot together..

AtTheMurph, your collection looks something like mine, only bigger! That an owl feather thrown in?

I think it was a redtail hawk. Just found the feather out hunting one day and wore it in my hat like a Plains Indian. Had a very good day too.

Here's a 25"ish from the other morning, slipped me two days in a row by flying directly at a house. No show the 3rd day. Took a different angle with a nw wind and finally got him. Amazing how small of an area they call home. My son shot one last night, flushed from almost the same place as one flushed the night before. Does anyone else notice this pattern with birds?

Yes, they will stick to an area until they move. That's usually the day before you go to hunt them.

Nice tail feathers for Ringnecks.

I do not care how big the horns are, I want meat in my Freezer. The horns taste like S$iT.

Ketchup makes everything taste a little better!!! Those spurs look nasty! Great photo's guy's.

New longest for 2013, not sure on the length but pretty long. Saw well over 100 birds today (god unless North Dakota) shot 2, lost another, father missed a lot (new gun). More to come tomorow hopefully.

Last year I shot a rooster up at our cabin in north west Wisconsin in my neighbors frozen swamp, the fence line and swamp grass along the edge of a cut corn field held 4 roosters and about 10 hens. I missed the first rooster, my 13 yr old son got the next 2 so I took the dog to the area the first one landed across the swamp, when he flushed I got him this time and after the dog retrieved him for me I was shocked at its size, it was huge! We measured the tails at the cabin 28.5" needless to say he's on the wall next to my seemingly small 25" now. Any body have any giant tails I'd love to hear about them! I'll post a pic once I figure out how.

I shot a 24 1/2 inch tail 3 years ago in ND. I never thought i would shot anything close again. Most of our tails are 19-21. I had a really nice story of how i got it, so i mounted it. Then this year I shot a 25 inch Bird (i didn't mount). But both birds where monsters compare to the other birds we shot that day. All I am saying, is if a 24 inch tail seemed ridiculously Large, I Can't image what a 28 inch looked like. I hope to just see somthing like that someday. Congrats, it looks like a great Bird!!!

Sorry I put this on here, didn't want to start a bitch festival. Read a few other forums where guys were shredding others about bullets, guns, dogs, chokes etc. seemed like pheasant hunting loving people on here that have hunted all over(which I have not) that would share their story's about something special they shot. I'm not a tec guy and I'm not about to text a pic to someone from my phone with crabby people like smlo, don't care if you don't believe it, don't know you, it's on my wall and that's all that matters to me. Yes wis releases birds in certain county's it's on the DNR web site but no where close to me. This bird was killed on private land my friend has 1/2 mile from my cabin as I stated before. Good luck to the rest of you this season. Smlo the reason our public land sucks because pricks like you drive across the St. Croix river

Most people on this site act better than they did on your post. Don't judge all of us by a few.

I am heading to ND tomorrow! Hope to see a few of those. Nice birds.

Wow, I just measured them, and I got TWO 24" this weekend. Some Big birds out there. I think the bird closest was the other 24"er.

Good times!

Nice birds! How the weather and cover out there? It's been really cold and windy here in wis. not to mention the freezing rain we got that flattened our cover. Went out Sunday and it was between -6 and -9 with out windchill.

15 lb Wallleye

I hear stories about 28"+ feathers, but never seem to see pictures.just like people catching 15 lb walleyes that dont seem to have a camera near by.

It was perfect. It warmed up a lot, and they received a light snow. Tracks everywhere. I wish I had a camera, some of the wing marks in the snow were beautiful. One of the spots we went through we couldn't take guns, a lot of birds, a lot of nice shots.

Sounds awesome! Something I joined this forum for is to find out about other places. I've hunted Iowa once, 8 guys and I shot the only rooster in 3 days of hunting all private land! Ouch that was bad. How do you go about finding places out of state, do you go with people that have been there before or shoot from the hip and just take an adventure? Would love to go to SD or ND but have no contacts and I'm more into having a plan.

For ND, I have hunted private land and got one bird, or limited out on plots that I discovered for the first time. Stay west of Jamestown, and pretty much the farther west the more luck you have.

Thanks, I'm going to put a plan together for next winter!

Here are two I got at Thanksgiving. The left bird was young, little nub of a spur. The right one an older bird with a nice spur. Older bird had a 23.5 tail feather
