Looking for a youth model 20 guage for a kid 4-10 inches tall,11 years old.Any suggestions? He's kind of a small kid, good athlete, neither of his parents own guns.religous fanatics.

I don't think they make them that small. Where did you find him, at the county fair? You're not kidding (kind of small)!! Put a ruler on him Goose, I want to know where he is between 4 and 6 inches. ;) Just kidding. Does the action matter? 20 gauge? I would look for a cheap 20 gauge pump and cut the stock down. save the piece and screw it back latter.

My dad wanted me to have simi autos for my 1st couple guns. He said they were safer because you only had to remember one thing after the shot. The safety. He must have been wright because I never shot anyone that didn't deserve it.

I saw a youth model Mossberg pump, that might fit him, it was 500 bucks exclamation. He's only in the 6th grade, and they've taken him out of school and he's in some kind of religious homeschool thing. He's a good athlete. I'm sure he's going to be a varsity athlete if he plays football. He lives in a double a town. I was one of the best athletes in Bozeman when I was between 11:00 between 10:00 and 17. I was a fairly big kid, not huge, but very coordinated and athletic. My brother was a geeky band kid, not athletic, basically a string bean, tall and thin.

I think the first used model shotgun my dad bought for my brother was an 1100 410 that he bought in the late 1980s. My brother didn't like hunting, and only went a few times. He was kind of a nerdy geek. Maybe I will wait another year, or maybe I can get him to go into that gun store and try that little gun out. It is really expensive for a youth model. Mossberg. I never really liked Mossberg but my other nephew I bought him a. He was a small kid really small and I bought him at 870 20 gauge youth model. He just became a lawyer, and he he just went on a 6-day hunting trip with me.

Tristar Raptor (I think) makes a decent intro level 20 gauge semiauto. I got one years ago for my son. It came with 2 stocks and a 2 or 3" barrel extension that had the same threads as a choke tube, and easily threaded in and extended the barrel when you put on the full size stock.
It has a magazine switch which disabled the semi-automatic feature, turning it into a low recoil single shot until they (and you) get more comfortable with gun handling skills.
If I still have it tucked away in the back of one of the safes. It will go to a grandkid someday.

.410 or 28 gauge. Builds a better shooter according to my Dad. Never killed a pheasant with the youth 870 20 gauge I got. I grew fast and it never fit right. Cant hit anything with his wingmaster either

One of my nephews was a little tiny kid, and I bought him a youth model 870, and he shot it pretty well. He actually used it until he was well into his twenties. I don't think they make those anymore. I haven't seen any.

If you can find one, a youth model/compact 11-87 20 gauge would be a good bet. Has a short stock and a 21" barrel. Was my first shotgun larger than a .410 and I shot it exclusively for many years. The gas operated system makes the recoil very manageable, I would think it would be better/easier than a pump 20 gauge for a youth. I still use mine for everything from waterfowl to turkeys. Taking it to KS this year as my primary I think.
