My 9 y/o daughter tagged out on Saturday during the youth deer season. She made a perfect heart shot on a young doe. I knew she was a good shot with her new .243 on the paper target, but I didn't know how the excitement of live game might affect her. I guess she has ice in her veins.
There was very little blood, and it ran into very thick brush. I was really afraid that we would have trouble finding it. But we worked together to track it, and discovered that it probably ran only 40 yards or so.
She wanted to watch me field dress it this time, with the intention of learning how to do it. But she decided that when I get my deer later this year she will probably just sit in the truck while I field dress it.
It was a really good day. For those of you that have gone before me, taking your kids hunting, you know how I feel. It's hard to express how good I feel about this experience. I'm proud, but it's so much more than that. I need Kismet or one of you wordsmiths to jump in and explain the emotions of watching your child shoot her first deer...
Anybody else help your youngster tag out last week?
