Yee-Haw!!!

The sand pictures near Karval were crazy.

The wind was howling across Kansas from Lawrence to Kanorado yesterday ... I did see dust kicking up in a few places, but nothing extraordinary. When I stopped in Goodland, KS the wind was gusting around 40 ... it was a both hands on the wheel type of day from Lawrence all the way to Denver.

I am up in Longmont and we probably have about 5 - 6 inches of snow, and it is coming down at a good rate.

Back yard in Broomfield as of about 9:00PM.

Doing well with this storm!!! Still coming down! Foot or better with a ton of moisture!!

Up here in Evergreen we have had about 16 inches. When running the dog this morning it was like walking through bread dough, nice moisture content. Hope the plains are getting some as we do not have many pheasants up here:( Think I'll stay in, eat chili and bake banana bread today....

I don't know about how the rest of northeast, eastern and southeastern Colorado, however I have noticed here in Colorado Springs that this year, the cold, wetter weather has persisted longer and more like a "normal" spring for Colorado Springs.

This time last year it was already HOT!!

We have broken 70 maybe once, if that I think.:eek:

They are calling for chance of rain all week and even stronger chance later in the week and thunderstorms.

I say bring it!!!;)

Maybe it is the optimistist in me, however I doubt we will see the same HEAT we saw last summer and all.

Greg

Feels like a more normal spring to me as well. It seems like heat and low humidity contribute to a drought as much as lack of rain. Those hot days seem to dry everything out. We were in the 80's every day at this time last year, then in the 100's most days in June. A cool spring should help a lot.

Without question it has been cooler. My Aspen trees have leaves usually in April as I always have to go out and shake the snow out or off so they do not break. This year they are just getting going and I have one small Aspen(4') that started popping last week. I suspect they will all start to pop in the next 10 days. We set records for daytime high(lows) and night time, low temps. It helps with the moisture staying in the ground, but hurts the insect production needed for chicks. It will catch up and if it stays moist and warm, would could have bountiful insects later. Lots of Legumes will be full of insects. It will still be some time before we see bird numbers as we did a few years ago.

Looks like no shot at cracking 70 here for the next 7 days - certainly mild to say the least.

RE: Bird Population - it will probably take a couple of years for the bird population to recover. Also, I heard on the farm report that a lot of farmers were not planning to plant corn this year since they had almost a total loss last year.

Planning to head to MT/SD/ND this fall.
