Any Wirehaired Vizsla owners on this site? I've been reading about this breed and they really sound like some nice dogs. I'm certainly not in the market for another dog but if I was I might have to give this breed some consideration.
 
yes, i own one, have posted some pics of him here ......he is a solid dog, built more sturdy than the smooth coats and is comfortable in cold weather and snow. he will also retrieve waterfowl as well.

not many breeders around and some just breed for show and rally.....need to do your homework.

You couldn't steer me to the pics you posted?

How does your HWV compare to other breeds you have owned? Would you get another one?
 
I have seen two or three at NAVHDA events in Sioux Falls. A couple are local.The coats vary. Two of the three only had a few wire hairs on the back. I thought the third very hairy dog was a Spimone.
 
I think a wire-haired version of a Vizsla would be better because the shor-haired have so little chest hair; very easy to chafe.
 
coats vary on both breeds, the short tight coat on the WHV is prefered.
you pretty much get back what you put in for training......i like both breeds.

Please excuse my ignorance...

Is this an actual breed? Or is it a cross like say a Shorthair/Griffon? I mean no disrespect for the animal at all, just curious having never seen or heard of one before... I dont get out much...

no offense taken, most people don't know they are in fact an authentic breed, not a boutique breed by any means. there are but a handful of breeders in the US, most are in Europe, Hungary for the most part.

my dog is not a world beater, but he is pretty solid, smart, points, retrieves and will sit in a duck blind and make water retrieves, the epitomy of the versatile breeds.

unfortunately, of the few breeders in the US, most are women and honestly they don't breed to develop the dog's hunting skills, but there are exceptions.
i could possibly steer someone, if interested in the breed to a better breeder in the states......thanks for asking, Cooper is great family dog and hunts well with other dogs.
 
Thanks. I learned something new today...;)

My friend has a regular (short) haired one. She is a fantastic dog. Swims like a fish, very stylish on point, and loves to retrieve. Small dog though only about 30 pounds. But what she lacks in size she more than makes up for in heart!:cool:
