Out checking on how the habitat is holding up this winter. It's all in pretty good shape and here are some pictures.

WOW!

I would like to make a prediction. :)

Your birds are doing very well and Your going to see BIG rewards for your hard work.

Jim, you guys don't have any snow! Are you guys back into drought?

God I hope not---we have had some really warm weather that melted most of the snow and the moisture that is falling in SD recently has been NNE of us.

We need to get some moisture as the ground is drying up--the last windy day really had the dust flying--made it easy to tell who is not doing a good job of land stewardship.

Jim,

Fantastic cover that makes me jealous and I hope others proud of the work you have done.

Any rooster would love to call your land "home". Imagine if more of us had the dedication, work ethic, and passion to create what you have. Bird populations would not be a topic of discussion!

Well done friend! Well done!:)

Thanks and while the improvement has been a lot (around 180 acres so far) the work is not done yet but I promise that it will continue. :D

Looks great Jim, actually just as it did when I last saw it. Hope you do get some moisture. Pleasant memories there for me.:)

Are those wild sunflowers and sweet clover in the last 2 pics?

Yep they sure are--the wild sunflowers were everywhere last year and the birds loved it. I have one 32 acre field that is only going to have the thistle problem worked on and it will continue to be a big old weedy patch and I will restore the 50x150 ft dugout to try and get some cattails started on it.

Come on spring so I can get at it. :D

That's some sweet looking property! Can't believe you don't have any snow, we're buried in it here in the Twin Cities.

Nice work SDJIM!

Nice work Jim...you are really raising the bar on land habitat. Last time I was up in your neck on the woods(just before X-Mas) there was snow and some very cold weather. Hope you get just the right amount of rainfall/snowfall and not all at once this spring.

What part of SD are you in that is devoid of snow?

Man... we are up to our eyebrows in snow here in Mn. Haven't seen grass cover in months.

South Central and we now have about 3 inches of new snow and it's been cold and windy. It has been a very open winter around here so far. I've also heard several roosters crowing on nice days--love that sound :D

Yeah, music to the ears of every pheasant hunter! Maybe there's some hope for SD next year. We'll see what this spring does.
