Sophia's only 6 months old but my dog Remington before her does the same thing.. KICK. i could be in bed.. my wife will allow her to join us in be in early morning after sophia's bathroom break.. but when she lays down, she KICKS.. and kicks me in the mommy and daddy button.

IS THIS NORMAL!!?? im getting frustrated why GSP KICKS and why they kick.. i cant seem to find any answers on google search or anything. im finding this to be NOT normal. she could be in her sleep, she lets out a HARD kick

Could she be dreaming? I have watched my Brittany's sleep in the living room in the evening. They run, smell, talk and kick and you name it. I always think they were dreaming of going afield and having fun.........Bob

oh nah.. she can be wide awake.. she kicks me. i know the difference between twitching and KICKING wide awake. she kicked me in the mommy daddy button this morning and it hurts and she was just layng there looking at me.

i think shes telling me no more brothers and sisters...

I tried, I have never heard of that before. You mean she kicks you with her back legs like a mule?.................Bob

i dunno if this is a GSP thing or if its just in her genes... bc ive never had a dog do this other than my missing GSP remington. like brother like sister

I talked with a friend that knows a lot about dogs. Here is his take on it. She is trying to show you she is the "Alpha Dog." She wants to kick you out of her bed. Correction...Put her on her back next time she does it and give her a very stern scolding and shaking. If you don't know how to put her on her back and give the discipline have a breeder or a trainer show you. Don't allow her in your bed at all. You may have to go as far as not allowing her in your bedroom. I hope this helps but it sounds close to right to me. If you allow this she will go on and do it on other things later on. Prove to her you are the boss "Alpha Dog".......Bob

Not sure I'd correct a dog for this. My female GSP does it frequently. The male doesn't, although we don't let him on beds as often. He does get couch time and I can't recall him doing it except during dreams. She does it while awake. I'd characterize it as kind of a spastic reflex thing--all of a sudden the neuron's fire and she kicks a leg. Like how you kick when the doc hit's the funny bone in your knee with his hammer. I'm confident it's not an intentional kick. It's different than stretching--it's an actual sudden kick.
Maybe our dogs are related! :)

my male GSP did it freq as well. Sophia does it while shes awake or just barely awake. she twitches when shes alseep but she doesnt kick in her sleep.

she kicked me last night on the couch and i did what bobby suggested per his friend... and she hasnt kicked me since last night and she was in the bed about 6am this morning.

shes crated at nights.. when she goes to the bathroom in the morning, we tend to let her sleep with us for the remaining 30 mins prior of the alarm clock or so... she does good and some days shes so hyper she kicks. i dunno. tell her no when she kicks... she seems to stop when i tell her no.. but then will kick again later. we'll see. i even tried google searching this and i havent found anything to solve such thing.

I get the kicks as well from my GSP's. Once or twice and it usually ends. My wife and I just laugh about it and have never put much though into it.
