Whining about this Season

For the third time weather forecasts for rain or snow at the Happy Hunting Grounds have - POOF! - disappeared. :( So frustrating because I am not again going to put my dog into this dust coated cover we now have.

I just had 3 raindrops hit my windshield on the way home for lunch.
They may put out a flash flood warning

I agree BC, I just didn't wanna be flamed for being negative about it. Low bird #'s I can handle, but the hunting/scenting conditions we're facing are disappointing to say the least.

There are still a few slight chances for precipitation over the next couple weeks. I hope at least one of those predictions comes to fruition!!

I don't envoy your situation out there. South Dakota will be in the same boat as Kansas if they get another year like they had this past summer:(

I'm afraid to say we (pheasant belt) are heading for some very disappointing times. There's just too much those wild long tails are facing right now and in the near future.

the Kansas winter wheat has got to be a little stressed already?...there were some good fall rains that got it started nicely, but really dry since then...we need moisture everywhere in the Midwest...i don't blame you guys for staying home, not fair to the dog to put him on the ground in these conditions...i see the Dakotas got some snow, lucky them.

Snow just dumped on MN..I might sneak out of the office early to get a hunt in! Love seeing snowy rooster tracks!

It's been a disappointing season thus far. Very disappointed because of the lack of water for duck hunting. But, it's bad for everything. I sure hope this turns around soon. I've seen ponds dried up that I have never seen dry before. Lakes are very low.

Yet some places continue to water their grass and trees even this late in the year.

Not really. Some of the areas I want to hunt got 13-16 inches of snow along with 40 mph winds. All the cover is now either not accessable or under several inches (feet) of snow. I plan to get out tomorrow and see what it's like. A little snow is nice but when you get it like this it makes for some tough hunting. Many years the season has been cut short due to too much snow. I remember crawling on my belly over drifts just to get to the cover I could hunt. The drifts wouldn't support your weight if you tried walking over them. At 66 I think my belly crawling days are behind me. :)

My area got 16"! On my way out too an old cattail slough, affectionately named "Granny Roosters", I missed the field approach walking and ended up swimming/belly crawling out of the ditch! Then on our way out after tromping through 98% of the slough a rooster in the 2% that we ignored flushed about 50 yards away to the north behind a group of trees and sailed right back over me and the dog. I dumped him hard with my second shot into the cattails and the mike made a nice retrieve. I had missed my previous 7 birds.

I hear ya! I went to Nebraska over the weekend and it was dusty. On Sunday morning we had 30+ mph wind gusts and I had a mouth full of grit after 30 min.

We received about an inch of snow last night, and I thought that it was a big deal. =)

Had about the same experience in NE for the opener. Had one shot on a scrawny older bird.
