What's your favorite Pheasant Hunting TV show?

The episode of the American Sportsman with Bing Crosby and Phil Harris on a cold day in Iowa....when Rusty was "set like a nurse's cap."
 
Don't know any qualifying as favorite, but the funniest was a show with Babe Winkleman as the "star". After giving what amounted to a 15 minute commercial for Mossberg and Federal, he promptly missed the first three birds he shot at. He then mentioned it was the faulty Mossberg shotgun/choke tubes/Federal ammo/guides/dogs etc. that caused him to miss.
 
i watched a good one year or two ago outdoors in the heartland with bob richardson it was the best on i had ever seen i like watching them when nothing to do gets my blood boiling especially great dog work

That's why you never want to brag BEFORE the hunt. Then you feel obligated to explain what went wrong...

I know it was a corny show, but I liked "hunting with hank". The dog was pretty and was very cooperative from what I remember. I like pretty much any bird hunting show that focuses mostly on the dogs, and not so much on 'getting the limit'.
 
They don't do much pheasant hunting but American Gun Dog is the best upland hunting show on TV.

I did watch one episode of the "The Flush" which is the new Pheasants Forever show. It has potential but is a Ron Schara production which in my experience his shows tend to try too hard to be slick and usually follow a pretty tight "formula". For me this can get stale pretty quickly.
 
KT Diaries. Kevin Townsend is the real deal. Fly fishing guide in the summer and upland hunting guide in the fall and winter. Great dog work.
 
I don't remember which show, but Gerald McRaney (Simon & Simon) and some bigshot clays "expert" were hunting one of the lodges over by Highmore, and actually shot some wild birds. The guys were pretty laid back and enjoyed the hunt rather than do a constant commercial for the products used.

WOW! That sure brings back memories, there was something special about Curt Gowdy's voice. :thumbsup:
 
With a little searching, two versions of that particular show and a few other AS episodes are available.
Most are not.
It was a classic show and Der Bingle and Wonga were classics themselves.
 
I can remember that we stopped what ever we were doing to watch that show. The exchanges between those two were great. If I remember correctly, they did a pheasant hunt in South East Pa. also, man things have sure changed!

Search ebay.
Several compilations of the AS shows were put on video.
One was on Birdhunting.
There are two versions of that one tho...one being shorter by about 11 minutes or so...it has the Iowa segment and one of B & P hunting sand grouse in Africa....the one where Phil says "I've got a lower lip like a teenage tuba player."
There also are reels occassionally available as well if one has a projector....I have one such featuring Cale Yarborough.
Sad that most tape records of AS appear destroyed.
I talked to one of the original cameramen on the show and that was his take...altho there was also a rumor that Lee Wulff had a complete set of the reels. While I have searched wide and outside the US, I have never contatcted Joan Wulff.
Who knows... I expect that somewhere dusty may be others....one episode was filmed in Alberta on sharptail...I'd give a Tim Hortens donut and large coffee for that one.

Sad that many no longer know of Bing and Phil.
Few even know that Bing Crosby was a hunter/fisherman....many may not even know who Bing and Phil were.
Bing once said to his second wife..."I wish I would have married you a year sooner."
"Bing, that's a sweet thing to say."
Bing replied, "It's true, if I had then Nathaniel would be able to hunt with a .22 this year."
Classic.
They were both quite the characters, flawed in many ways as we all are but they were of a cut not seen much today.
