I have a 3.5 year old springer that was my first hunting dog. I bought him from a backyard breeder. He is a great dog in the house and with my kid. He has tremendous desire and will to please in the field. The trouble is, he just does not have a nose.
I brought him out training with a bunch of other dogs today. He just runs right passed the planted birds and never seems to smell them. When I hunt wild birds with both of my flushers at the same time, my female probably flushes 85% of the birds.
Would you find a nice home for him (I may have a relative that would want him) and get a pup? Or would you just keep hunting him?
