Geez... how bout this weather, 70's the rest of the week thru the weekend.

Anyone want to take a guess on ice out on lakes throughout the state?

Looks like the shallow lakes here will be ice out by the weekend. Big and deep lakes still had a few die hards driving out.
There always is a few of those until somebody goes through, almost always near the shore. All lakes around here most likely will be ice free by the first.

Stupid warm in Wisconsin. Some ticks are out already. Mid-70's in mid-March.

Now, if the real Spring is not too wet, maybe the local surviving pheasant population can come back a bit.

Another neighbor sold his herd and is planting corn/soybeans. His is a 100-year family dairy farm.

The ice went out on Lake Minnetonka last weekend..crazy..I just pulled my boat out of storage..time to get her ready!!!!

Ice is pretty much gone up here. But! temps couldn't hit 40 today. Cold and NASTY!

No kidding, I was in Grand Rapids and the wind was damn cold coming across that parking lot. Had the wood stove going for several days non stop again.

The warm weather over the weekend didn't help me at a NSTRA trial in Nebraska. Elle and I were the 2nd brace to run on Saturday when it was still cool and damp. She had a very nice 4 bird run. Our 2nd brace on Saturday was the 13th at about 4:00 in the afternoon and it had gotten hot. It was 80+ degrees in the shade and hotter than heck in the field. She only had one find and a back but did beat her bracemate. I could tell the heat was affecting her. Sunday our first brace was the 8th which ran about noon and it was hotter than Saturday. I could tell she just wasn't herself in the field and it showed in the results. No finds and a blown back. We were scheduled to run the 13th brace on Sunday but I pulled her out as I figured there was nothing to be gained. She just wasn't use to those high temps. So we got an early start on the trip home.

Thanks for the report,George. Maybe Max could have helped?

Heading to Major Ave. on Thursday for a quick hunt; no pheasants of any stripe, just Chuckers. Fortunately we'll be there in the AM before it gets too hot.

Best wishes,

Jon

Rained most of the day yesterday, snowed most of the night, wind, worst blizzard of the Winter. Schools closed.
